How to choose commercial coffee beans

Choosing commercial coffee beans is an important task because the quality of the coffee directly affects the coffee experience you provide. Here are some key factors to help you make an informed choice.

First, consider the positioning and target customer group of your coffee shop or restaurant. Different regions and cultures have different preferences for coffee flavors. For example, there is a clear difference between the strong and bitter espresso in Italy and the light and aromatic filter coffee in the United States. Understanding and meeting the needs of the local market will help attract more customers.

Secondly, when choosing commercial coffee beans, you should consider the degree of roasting and origin. The degree of roasting will directly affect the taste and flavor characteristics of the beans. Generally speaking, lighter roasting will retain more original flavors and have characteristics such as higher acidity, lightness and refreshing taste; while darker roasting will give the beans stronger, richer, and more bitter characteristics. In addition, it is also important to understand the origin, because coffee beans from different origins will have unique flavors and qualities. For example, coffee produced in Brazil usually has a balanced and soft taste, while coffee produced in Ethiopia is mainly floral and fruity.

Finally, sustainability and certification should also be considered when choosing commercial coffee beans. More and more consumers are concerned about environmental protection and social responsibility, and they are more inclined to buy products that meet sustainable development standards and are certified (such as Rainforest Alliance or Fair Trade). These certifications can ensure that the coffee beans you use are obtained through reasonable planting, picking and processing processes, and that farmers are paid fairly.
