Roasting and brewing coffee beans: the art of making aromatic coffee

Coffee is a popular drink, and its unique aroma and taste attract countless people. The key to making a cup of mellow and delicious coffee lies in the roasting and brewing skills of coffee beans. This article will explore how to make an intoxicating cup of coffee from these two aspects.

1. Coffee Bean Selection

First, choose high-quality freshness, good preservation, uniform color, smooth surface without cracks or deformation, strong aroma, moderate moisture content (10%~12%), etc. In addition, when purchasing, you can choose different origins and processing methods (such as washing, semi-dry or natural drying) according to your taste preferences, whether to adjust the moisture content during the processing, etc.

2. Coffee Bean Roasting

Roasting is the process of subjecting raw beans to high temperature to evaporate the internal moisture, change the color and form the flavor. The degree of roasting has an important influence on the aroma and taste of coffee beans. Generally speaking, roasting can be divided into three stages: light roasting, medium roasting and dark roasting.

Light Roast: The roasting time is shorter, the surface color of the coffee beans is lighter, retaining the characteristics of the original origin, with high acidity and a distinct fruity taste.

Medium Roast: The roasting time is moderate, and the surface of the coffee beans is brown or dark brown. At this time, the coffee beans have fully unfolded and released a rich and fragrant aroma.

Dark Roast: The roasting time is long, and the surface color of the coffee beans becomes very dark or even shiny. At this time, the acidity decreases but the bitterness increases, accompanied by a distinct cocoa or chocolate flavor.

3. Coffee Brewing

Brewing is the process of dissolving ground or unground coffee beans by contacting them with hot water. Brewing techniques directly affect the taste and aroma of coffee.

Here are some common brewing methods:

Drip Brewing: Put the ground coffee powder into the filter paper, then slowly pour in the appropriate amount of warm water, allowing the water to slowly flow through the coffee powder. This method can retain more mellow flavor and oil, and is simple and convenient to operate.

Espresso: Finely or ultra-finely ground coffee powder is put into a pressure pot, and high-pressure steam passes through the coffee powder to produce a small cup of rich espresso with a certain bitterness and a high degree of acidity.

Pour Over: Put the ground coffee powder into the hand pourer, wet it in advance and add filter paper, then pour the appropriate amount of warm water evenly in a circular motion. This method can better control the extraction time and ratio, and is suitable for slowly savoring the delicate taste of coffee.

4. Storage of coffee

In order to maintain the freshness and flavor of coffee beans, the correct storage method is very important. First, coffee beans should be stored in a sealed container to avoid exposure to air. Second, avoid direct sunlight and high temperature environment. Finally, grind before use to maintain better flavor.

In short, making a cup of mellow and delicious coffee starts with selecting high-quality beans and releasing its best flavor through the appropriate roasting degree and brewing techniques. At the same time, you should also pay attention to maintaining freshness during the storage process. I hope this article will help you make delicious coffee!
