Is Americano just Italian coffee with some water? Here's how to make authentic Americano coffee

"Americano" (English: Americano, Italian: Caffè Americano) is black coffee made with a drip coffee pot. Because the general extraction time is relatively long (about four or five minutes), the caffeine content is higher. Americano is simple to make, and emphasizes convenience, speed, and freedom. Compared with Italian coffee, Americano has a relatively more refreshing taste and can better restore the original taste of coffee beans.

The base of American coffee is espresso. Espresso originated in Italy and is mostly extracted with Italian coffee machines.

Taste characteristics

The taste of coffee extracted from American coffee is mainly bitter, and this kind of black coffee has the highest purity. If you want to taste the flavor of different types of coffee beans, American coffee is a good choice.

Preparation method

During the production process, first put the ground coffee powder directly into the powder bowl, spread the coffee powder evenly to the edge of the cup, then use the powder tamper to press it into a coffee cake, place the handle on the espresso machine, and start extraction. The coffee cake will withstand the pressure of about 9Par atmospheric pressure after passing through the machine. It is extracted in just 20-30 seconds, releasing a small amount of coffee liquid with a thicker taste. The extracted espresso can be diluted with hot water or ice water in proportion to make American coffee.

With an American coffee machine, making American coffee is easier than you think: add 1 scale of water - pour in 1 level spoon of coffee powder - start - in about two minutes, a cup of fragrant American coffee is ready.

American coffee machines have no pressure and only produce black coffee, which is American coffee. They cannot make other fancy coffees.

Usually divided into two layers, the ground coffee beans are placed in the upper funnel-shaped container with filter paper or metal filter, and the lower layer is a glass or ceramic coffee pot. Pour cold water into another separate compartment. When starting, heat the cold water to about 90 degrees Celsius and slowly introduce it into the funnel-shaped container, so that the hot water passes through the coffee powder and flows into the coffee pot below.

In fact, the beans needed for brewing Italian coffee and American coffee are also different. The coffee beans required for Italian coffee are finely ground and deeply roasted, so that the squeezed coffee will be fragrant and rich, so it is often better to choose commercial blended or Italian blended beans; American coffee uses an American drip filter machine, which uses hot water for drip extraction, which can better highlight the original flavor and aroma of the coffee beans. The grinding degree is also coarser than the beans required for Italian coffee. At this time, we can choose some boutique coffee beans from a single production area to better and directly feel the different regional customs!

American coffee can be considered a very neutral coffee. Its popularity is basically the same between male and female guests. Italian blended beans are usually used. Mandheling, Honduras, Colombian, and Brazilian beans can all make delicious American coffee.
