Drinking a cup of good coffee every morning is a good way to wake up and refresh yourself. Before going out to work, you should have a few minutes even if you are in a hurry. Coffee and breakfast are the taste of life! But how does the coffee you make at home taste?

Many people are used to making a cup of coffee every day, but they never realize how delicious the coffee they make can be. Don’t be afraid, today I will teach you some simple steps so that you can easily improve the quality of your coffee!

1. Buy better beans

You may be used to buying only the same type of coffee beans you've been drinking for years, but the selection of coffee beans is now vast and impressive. From coffee shops, online stores, supermarkets, etc., there are many ways to buy coffee beans.

Good coffee doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to buy. Sometimes you can give unfamiliar brands or stores a chance and buy some good quality and inexpensive coffee. You may find something new and find a better tasting or more cost-effective coffee.

2. Store coffee beans properly

Once you get your coffee beans home, they need to be stored correctly. The best way to store coffee is in an airtight container in a cool, dry place (not in the refrigerator or freezer). It is generally recommended to use an opaque container, but if you use a transparent container, place it in a cupboard away from light sources.

3. Weigh the beans

Each brewing method requires a different ratio of ground coffee to water. Using too little ground coffee will make the coffee taste bland, using too much ground coffee will taste too strong.

The best way is to find the most suitable amount of coffee beans according to the brewing equipment you use. The best way is to use an electronic scale instead of calculating by a few spoons. This way, the ratio of coffee taste and brewing parameters will be more stable.

4. Choose a good grinder

There are many grinders on the market. The most important thing is to find the grinder that suits you. Some electric grinders are easy to use and can grind to the desired level of fineness, but they are more difficult to operate. Blade grinders are not recommended because they can vary greatly in grind fineness and can easily generate heat during the grinding process, which can damage the quality of the coffee beans.

Once you find the grinder that suits you best, you need to find the grind size that suits your brewing equipment. Generally speaking, fine grind is suitable for espresso, medium-fine grind is suitable for hand brewing, and coarse grind is suitable for cold brew or French press. 5. Pay attention to the brewing water

The best water for brewing coffee must be clean and odorless. You can use bottled water or filtered water so that the coffee you brew will not be disturbed by odors every time, producing a purer-tasting coffee.

6. Try different brewing methods

There are many ways to brew coffee. In addition to the common home coffee machine, you can try a hand-brewed filter cup or a French press, or a simple espresso brewing device (Moka pot, Aeropress, etc.).

These machines can create rich, flavorful coffee. Some may take a little longer to learn how to brew, but the coffee they brew will taste better.

If you don’t have much space in your kitchen, that’s great! These coffee machine alternatives not only take up less space, but some also use metal filters, which reduces the waste of filter paper.

7. Clean your brewing equipment

Coffee utensils are different from cooking pots. Leaving them unclean will not protect the pot. The grease and residue left over from the brewing process will affect the taste of the coffee, so it is important to clean the coffee utensils properly.

Most brewing equipment such as filter presses, filter cups, and moka pots can be easily cleaned by hand, but some coffee machines must have their pipes cleaned to remove the minerals and grease accumulated in the internal pipes. 8. Avoid leaving your coffee for too long

Bitter and unpalatable coffee is often caused by overheating the brewed coffee while keeping it warm. You may brew too much and not finish it, and then keep it warm for a long time. If the coffee beans themselves are of poor quality, negative flavors are more likely to emerge. Even worse is when the coffee is cooled and then reheated in a microwave or stove.

If you want to enjoy your coffee, it's best to brew it fresh and drink it as soon as possible. It's best not to leave the coffee warm for more than an hour, rather let it cool naturally. If you don't want to waste coffee, put the brewed coffee in the refrigerator and drink it iced later.

9. Find out the sweetness and taste of coffee

Any cup of coffee can be blended with a variety of sweeteners and milk. Although good coffee does not need to add anything else to taste its original best flavor, the nature of coffee is that it is tolerant, so you can try adding anything you want to coffee if you have the chance!

Substitute a dollop of cream for milk or whipped cream, or cinnamon for sugar. Simple syrup is easy to make, too; freeze leftover coffee (with milk and sugar) to make coffee ice cubes, add freshly brewed coffee for a quick iced coffee, or make your own Irish coffee (use whiskey if you’re a bit of a teetotaler). 10. Try making coffee drinks sold in stores

If you have the chance, you can watch how the barista in the store makes drinks. Some drinks are not difficult to make and as long as you grasp some details, you can try making them at home.
