The Moka pot, also known as the Italian coffee pot, is a traditional Italian coffee maker. Most people think it is related to Moka coffee from the name, but it is not. The Moka pot was invented by an Italian in 1933 and was later named Moka. The word "Moka" has the same meaning as "Mocha", so it is easy to confuse it with many people who mistakenly think that this coffee pot can be used to brew Mocha coffee, or that this coffee pot is specifically designed for brewing Mocha coffee! The coffee extracted by the Moka pot has a rich flavor. Because it is easy to use, it has become a symbol of home-style espresso over time. Features of Moka Pot The main features of the Moka pot are its elegant and unique shapes, simple operation and fast brewing, small size and reasonable price. Regardless of the design of the appearance, the internal structure of the Moka pot is similar, which can basically be divided into three parts: the upper pot, the lower pot and the filter. The principle of Moka pot coffee extraction The Moka pot extracts coffee by using the steam pressure (about 1.5-3.0 atmospheres) generated in the lower pot. When the steam pressure is high enough to penetrate the coffee powder, it pushes the hot water to the upper pot. On the way to the upper pot, the hot water passes through the coffee powder in the filter, extracting the essence of the coffee very quickly. The extracted coffee essence has a strong taste, both sour and bitter, and is the coffee maker that is closest to espresso. Structural features of the Moka pot The lower pot is filled with hot water. When it is heated on the stove, the hot water boils. The volatile steam pushes the hot water upward from the pipe in the lower pot through the air pressure, passes through the coffee powder, and then filters out the fragrant coffee in the upper pot. Pour it out and it will be espresso! Make a cup of Italian coffee with a moka pot Prepare utensils 1. Moka pot, gas stove and stove stand 2. Coffee beans 3. Bean grinder 4. Pill-shaped filter paper Moka Pot Usage Tips 1. It is recommended to try brewing the coffee a few times before officially tasting it. 2. To avoid the coffee pot being empty when brewing coffee, it is normal for a small amount of water to remain in the pot after brewing coffee. 3. Please do not burn the moka pot empty to avoid damage and danger. 4. After the moka pot is heated, please do not touch the pot body directly to avoid the risk of burns. 5. If the coffee cannot reach the upper pot, the rubber gasket in the middle may have elastic fatigue. It only needs to be replaced for normal use. Specific steps Grind about 20-22g of coffee powder, the coarseness of the coffee powder should be the same as that of an Espresso coffee machine. Pour half of the pot into the water. Put the matching metal filter in place. Gently pour all the coffee grounds into the filter. Use your fingers to scrape the top of the coffee to make it smooth. The best way is to go from top to bottom, then from right to left. In other words, from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock, then from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock. You can also tap it on the counter a few times, it depends on your taste. Tighten the upper body of the kettle and start heating it up soon! Place the moka pot in the center of the stove. When the water in the bottom pot boils, the internal pressure of the bottom pot will push it up to extract the coffee, and it will flow out of the nozzle in the middle of the upper pot into the cup. If the coffee liquid sprays out explosively, it means that the water temperature is too high. On the contrary, if it flows out too slowly, it means that the water temperature is too low, and you need to increase the fire. When you hear the hissing and bubbling sound, the coffee is ready. Be careful when pouring coffee into the cup, the moka pot is made of metal and is still hot! Finally, enjoy the coffee! Tips for using a Moka pot 1. Water quality is very important! It is best to use clean water filtered by a household water purifier and heated before use. A cup of espresso is about 30ml. Calculate the amount of hot water to be poured into the moka pot based on this. However, be careful that the water level cannot exceed the safety valve, otherwise the hot water will spray out with steam after heating, which may cause burns~~ 2. Draw a circle according to the diameter of the coffee container, and cut the filter paper or filter cloth. If it is a filter cloth, remember to wash it with water, otherwise the coffee will have a cloth pulp smell, which is not very offensive. Putting filter paper or filter cloth can prevent fine coffee powder from entering the upper pot, so as to ensure that there will be no residual coffee grounds in the brewed coffee. This is also the basic etiquette in coffee social interaction. 3. Pour the coffee powder into the coffee container, scrape the coffee powder that is higher than the edge of the container with a spoon, and then use a powder tamper or a small spoon to gently compact the coffee powder. Be careful not to leave excess coffee powder around the coffee container, which will affect the life of the rubber ring. Wet the filter paper or filter cloth with clean water, stick it on the filter net at the bottom of the upper pot, and screw the upper and lower pots together. 4. Use a mini gas stove or heat the moka pot on the stove. Use high heat, but do not exceed the diameter of the lower pot. Open the lid of the upper pot. When coffee liquid is filtered out, turn down the heat. When you hear the sound of bubbles, it means that the water in the lower pot has basically flowed into the upper pot under the pressure of water vapor. At this time, you can turn off the heat. 5. Remember to warm up the coffee cup in advance so that the aroma of the coffee can be better volatilized. Pour the coffee from the moka pot into the coffee cup. This is an espresso. If you can't stand the strong taste of espresso, you can pour in milk or milk foam, as well as sugar according to your taste.
