How long is the shelf life of fresh coffee beans?

Coffee beans are an important raw material for making coffee, and freshness plays a vital role in the taste and aroma of coffee. So, how long is the shelf life of fresh coffee beans?

First, we need to understand under what circumstances coffee beans lose their freshness. When coffee beans are exposed to air, they react with oxygen and gradually lose their natural aroma and flavor. Therefore, it is very important to store them in a closed state.

Generally speaking, whole, unground coffee beans can stay fresh longer, usually from 6 months to 1 year if stored in a dry, cool, well-sealed container.

However, after opening the package, the situation is different. Once the bag is opened and exposed to the air, the remaining space inside will be filled with air and humidity. This will cause the beans to lose freshness faster.

In order to prolong the freshness of coffee beans after opening the package, it is best to transfer them to a vacuum-sealed container. This can reduce the contact with oxygen and moisture, thereby extending the shelf life of the beans.

In addition, the shelf life of ground coffee beans is shorter than that of whole coffee beans. Once broken, the coffee powder is more easily exposed to the air and quickly loses its aroma and flavor. Therefore, when buying ground coffee, it is best to choose small packages and use them up as soon as possible.

In summary, unopened whole coffee beans can keep fresh for about 6 months to 1 year. Once the package is opened or the ground coffee powder has been used, it needs to be used as soon as possible to ensure the taste and aroma.
