How to choose coffee beans: from beginners to planting

Choosing coffee beans is a task that requires careful consideration, as different coffee bean types and processing methods can bring different tastes and flavors. For beginners, knowing some basic knowledge can help them make better choices.

First, it's important to understand the types of coffee beans. The two most common coffee beans on the market are Arabica and Robusta. Arabica beans are generally of higher quality, lower acidity, and a richer taste; while Robusta has a stronger, bitter, and richer taste. Beginners can try these two different types to find their favorite style.

Secondly, it is also very important to understand the origin of coffee beans. There are climatic conditions suitable for growing coffee trees all over the world, such as Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and other countries are major producing areas. Each producing area has its own unique properties and affects the flavor of the coffee produced. For example, the Brazilian producing area usually produces coffee beans with nutty and chocolate flavors, while Ethiopia is known for its floral and fruity flavors. Understanding the characteristics of different producing areas can help beginners choose coffee beans that suit their taste.

Finally, it is also important to understand how coffee beans are processed. After being picked, coffee beans need to go through processes such as processing and roasting before they can become drinkable. Common processing methods include dry (natural), wet (washed) and semi-wet (semi-washed). These different processing methods will affect the taste and flavor of coffee beans. For example, dry processing usually makes coffee beans have a richer, fruity and sweet flavor; while wet processing makes the taste more refreshing and higher in acidity. Beginners can try different processing methods to find out which type they like.
