Coffee beans or capsules, which is better?

Coffee beans or capsules, which is better?

Coffee is one of the world's most popular drinks, and the options for making it at home are usually to use beans or capsules. However, which option is more cost-effective? Let's explore.

First, let's look at coffee beans. Buying whole coffee beans is usually cheaper than buying capsules. You can choose different varieties and origins of coffee beans according to your preferences, and you can adjust the grind and brewing method to suit your taste. In addition, buying large packages of coffee beans can also save costs and reduce packaging waste.

However, preparing Colombian coffee for traditional brewing methods such as drip or espresso requires extra time and effort. You need a grinder to grind the whole beans into the right powder, and you need to master the correct brewing technique to get the best taste.

In contrast, capsules offer a quick and easy option. Simply place the capsule into a certain model machine and press a button to make a cup of coffee. The capsules are usually packaged in individual sachets, which helps keep the coffee fresh and reduces the effort of cleaning and maintaining the machine.

However, capsules are relatively expensive relative to coffee beans. Each cup of coffee made with capsules typically costs several times more than with whole coffee beans. Additionally, because capsules are made of plastic or aluminum, they also generate a lot of waste and have a negative impact on the environment.

To sum up, from an economic perspective, if you are willing to spend extra time and effort to brew a perfect cup of coffee and want to save some money and reduce environmental impact, it may be more cost-effective to buy whole coffee beans. However, if you value convenience and don't mind paying a higher price and bearing the environmental impact, you can choose to use capsules.
