The difference between Italian and American coffee beans: a battle between espresso and a cup of filter coffee

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and espresso and Americano are two common ways to make it. There are obvious differences between these two methods, from concentration to taste to production methods.

First, espresso is known for its uniquely intense flavor and rich taste. It is made by forcing hot water under high pressure through finely ground and tightly packed coffee powder. This process allows the water to be in contact with the coffee beans for a short time, usually just 20-30 seconds. Due to the high pressure and fast brewing time, espresso has a higher body, more complex and deeper flavor.

In contrast, American filter coffee focuses on balance and a softer taste. It uses a paper or metal mesh filter to slowly force boiling water through medium-coarse ground coffee beans. This process takes about 2-4 minutes to complete and usually uses lower water pressure. Due to the longer contact time, filter coffee has a softer, more balanced taste that retains the natural aroma and acidity of the coffee beans.

In addition to the difference in production methods, espresso and Americano coffee also differ in cultural background. Italians usually like to enjoy a small and strong cup of espresso in the morning or afternoon, which is an indispensable part of their daily life. Americans prefer to drink large cups of Americano coffee with a soft taste, which is very popular in offices, family gatherings and other occasions.

In summary, there is a clear difference between espresso and Americano coffee. The former is known for its strong and complex taste and is made by high pressure and rapid pouring; the latter focuses on a balanced taste and retains the original aroma and acidity by slowly filtering. Whether you prefer a strong taste or a mild and soft one, both types of coffee have their own unique charm and are worth a try.
