Introduction to the appearance characteristics and morphology of coffee beans

Coffee beans are a very common food in our daily life. They are the raw material for making coffee. Coffee beans have unique appearance characteristics and forms. The following will briefly introduce them from three aspects: color, shape and size.

First, the color of coffee beans can be divided into two main types: light and dark. Light coffee beans are usually yellow-brown or light brown and have a smooth surface. These colors are brighter, so they are also called "bright" coffee beans. In contrast, dark coffee beans are darker brown or black-brown, and may have some oil spots on the surface. These colors are fuller, so they are also called "low-bright" coffee beans.

Secondly, in terms of shape, most coffee beans are oval or ovate. They are usually slightly flat, and the two ends are slightly contracted into a small tail. This small tail is actually the remnant of the undeveloped germ, which is also an important difference between coffee beans and other beans. In addition, the surface of coffee beans is usually smooth, without obvious wrinkles or bumps.

Finally, in terms of size, there are some differences in the size of coffee beans. Generally speaking, most coffee beans are relatively small in size. According to the international standard classification system scaA (Specialty COFFEE Association of AmerICA), large coffee beans are about 7-8 mm in diameter, medium-sized ones are about 6-7 mm, and small ones are under 5.5 mm. Of course, not everyone can easily observe these tiny differences with the naked eye.

In short, coffee beans that look simple in appearance and morphology actually contain rich and diverse information. Careful observation of their color, shape, size and other characteristics can help us better understand and identify different types and qualities of coffee.
