Drinking vinegar and coffee will accelerate calcium loss? Nutritionist debunks the rumor: aged vinegar itself contains calcium

I believe many people know that there is a widespread problem of calcium deficiency in my country. Data shows that the daily calcium intake of Chinese people is 338 mg, far lower than the 800 mg recommended in the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents".

So why does this happen? In addition to not eating enough calcium-rich foods, people on the Internet often blame foods such as coffee and vinegar. They believe that eating these foods frequently will cause calcium loss. But the nutritionists at the Explosive Nutrition Class tell everyone that these are actually rumors:

Coffee has become more and more popular among young people in recent years. However, it is often criticized because it contains potassium, oxalic acid and caffeine, and it is said that drinking too much will lead to calcium deficiency. But as the old saying goes, it is nonsense to talk about the effect without considering the dosage.

Whether it is potassium, oxalate or caffeine, the amount of calcium loss caused is very small, and you can make up for it by eating calcium-containing foods. For example, drinking a cup of coffee will only increase the loss of calcium by 2 to 3 mg.

As for vinegar, it is even more unfair. Not only does it not cause calcium loss, but it can promote calcium absorption. Rumors say that vinegar is acidic and will dissolve calcium in bones. But anyone with a little common sense knows that vinegar turns into carbon dioxide and water when it enters the stomach, and it is impossible to "dissolve bones".

You should know that Chinese people love to eat vinegar. If eating it really causes calcium loss, various nutritionists and orthopedic doctors will certainly emphasize it frequently, and the country will also find ways to deal with it. But what you see in life are basically marketing articles in the circle of friends, most of which are just rumors.

In addition, if you often look at the nutritional ingredient list of vinegar, you will find that it actually contains calcium, and its calcium content is not inferior to milk. According to the data, some old vinegar on the market contains up to 125 mg of calcium per 100 grams.

So in general, neither coffee nor vinegar will cause calcium deficiency, and there is no problem with eating them in moderation. However, the nutritionist of the Explosive Nutrition Classroom would like to remind everyone that there is indeed something in life that can cause calcium loss, and the Chinese people love to eat it very much, that is salt.

Eating more salt means consuming more sodium, and sodium promotes the excretion of calcium from the urine. Generally speaking, for every 6 grams of salt consumed, 40 to 60 mg of calcium will be lost. Therefore, if you want to avoid calcium deficiency or are taking calcium supplements, you should also pay attention to strictly controlling your salt intake. In a sense, eating less salt means taking more calcium supplements.

Friends, do you add too much salt when cooking? Do you think eating too much salt has an impact on your health? Feel free to leave a comment in the comment section below to share your life experience.
