The Miracle of Coffee: From Tree to Cup

Coffee is a drink originating from tropical regions. It is loved by tea lovers around the world for its unique aroma and stimulation. However, few people really understand the miracle hidden behind coffee. This article will take you to explore the process of coffee beans from tree to cup.

1. Coffee trees and fruits

A mature coffee tree can usually grow for more than 20 years and produce dozens or even hundreds of kilograms of coffee berries every year. These berries are red or yellow in appearance, shaped like cherries, and contain two small beans.

When picking, farmers will select fruits that are moderately mature, brightly colored, and intact in appearance for harvesting. This requires patience and meticulousness, carefully checking every branch under the sun to see if there are suitable fruits to be picked.

2. Peeling and fermentation

Once picked, the coffee cherries are peeled. This process can be done manually or mechanically. After peeling the skin, you get the yellow coffee beans.

Next, the yellow beans are placed in water for fermentation, which usually takes 24 to 48 hours, during which they need to be constantly stirred and monitored to ensure the proper fermentation.

3. Drying and baking

After fermentation is complete, the coffee beans need to be dried to remove excess water. Farmers will lay them out on a flat, well-ventilated surface to dry for several days.

These dried beans are then roasted, where they undergo a chemical reaction at high temperatures (usually 200 to 240 degrees Celsius) and transform into the dark brown beans we know and love.

4. Grinding and brewing

The final stage is to grind, weigh and brew the roasted and cooled coffee beans, which can be done using a variety of methods and equipment, such as a manual grinder, an automatic coffee machine or a French press.

Once brewing is complete, we can enjoy a cup of coffee with a fragrant aroma and rich taste.

Conclusion

From tree to cup, coffee beans go through multiple stages of processing and handling. Each step requires patience and skill to ensure that we end up with a delicious cup of coffee. I hope that through this article, you will have a deeper understanding of the miracle behind coffee.
