Steps and tutorials for making heart-shaped, leaf-shaped and tulip coffee latte art

Coffee latte art is a beautiful pattern made by pouring milk into espresso using a specific professional technique. There are three basic coffee latte art patterns: heart, leaf, and tulip. Complex patterns are created on this basis. If you taste a cup of delicious and beautiful coffee in a coffee shop, you will definitely be very happy. For baristas, making latte art is also a reflection of their professionalism.

In order to help students better understand and practice coffee latte art, teachers at Chongqing Bairest Coffee Training School have compiled wonderful coffee latte art teaching content with clear and detailed steps. Through the teacher’s explanation and guided practice, students will quickly learn the basic shapes of coffee latte art: heart shape, tulip shape, and leaf shape.

To make coffee patterns, you first need to make a tank of milk foam. Qualified foamed milk should have fine and dense foam. The milk level after foaming should be 70% to 80% full in the tank. It takes a lot of daily practice to achieve this.

First, the theoretical technical guidance of the heart shape:

1. Tilt the cup and pour a small amount of milk into the cup from a slightly higher place. Note that it should be poured in the center of the cup. The technique here is to pull the hand holding the milk jug up and down and inject the milk in a constant circle to blend the milk and espresso.

2. When the cup is half full or 70% full, drop the milk jug directly, with the jug body attached to the edge of the cup. The closer the jug mouth is to the coffee liquid surface, the better. Keep the milk flow rate at a medium speed. Facing the center of the cup, start shaking your wrist left and right at a constant speed. Note that it should be a gentle shake, not a tremor, nor a large swing of the arm. Control the position of the milk jug and shake it symmetrically from left to right.

3. You will see layers of milk foam begin to emerge and spread out from the mouth of the tank. If no pattern appears immediately after you start shaking, keep shaking and pouring. Layers of milk foam will gradually accumulate.

3. As the liquid level rises, the cup slowly straightens from its tilted position. At this time, you need to push the milk jug forward to allow the milk to pause at the center point.

4. At this time, the cup should be full. You need to slow down the flow rate, raise the milk jug, and push it forward quickly to give the pattern a cutting surface.

If the milk flow rate is too high in this step, the overall pattern will be very conspicuous and thick. Be sure to find the center of the cup to start the pattern. If the pattern is too far forward, the pattern will be squeezed at the front of the cup, and vice versa. Another point is that some people tend to reduce the flow rate when they drop the milk tank to shake it. If the flow rate is reduced, it is difficult for the white milk foam to float up to form a pattern. Therefore, when shaking the milk tank, the flow rate of the milk is medium and large.

It should be noted that at the beginning, the flow rate is high and low - hit the center of the cup directly - the cup is half full - lower the milk jug - maintain the center and medium flow rate - shake out the milk foam - pile up the milk foam - slowly push forward, pause - raise the milk jug - reduce the flow rate - cut straight ahead!

Next is the theoretical guidance of leaves:

The leaf pattern is similar to the heart-shaped pattern, the difference is that at the beginning the milk jug is shaking in place. When the cup is almost full, the milk jug moves backward while shaking, and the cup is slowly straightened. You can pause at the edge of the cup. At this time, the milk jug is raised and pushed forward with a small flow to cut the pattern.

Finally, here is Tulip’s theoretical guidance:

1. The technique of tulip is mainly a combination of shaking in place and "pushing". The overall pattern is divided into three sections.

2. The first section uses the technique of shaking the milk jug in place to form the large leaves of the tulip.

3. For the second section, select the right position (at one-third of the liquid surface) and pour milk into the milk tank. Shake the tank at the same time. Be careful not to shake it too much and the frequency should be smaller than the first time. Push the tank forward and use the impact of the milk to push the leaves in the first section back and deform them.

4. In the third stage, inject milk at one-third of the liquid surface, move the milk jug forward for a short pause, raise the milk jug, and reduce the flow rate. When the cup is full, push the jug mouth forward to cut the pattern.
