Are Cassia Seeds the Same as Coffee Beans? Really?

Cassia seed and coffee bean are two different plants, and there are obvious differences between them in appearance, origin, use, etc. Although they are both widely used in traditional Chinese medicine and beverage fields, they are not the same.

First of all, in terms of appearance, Cassia seeds and coffee beans are very different. Cassia seeds are small reddish-brown seeds that are spherical in shape and have a hard shell, while coffee beans are flat and slightly curved, usually dark brown or black.

Secondly, there are differences in the origin. Cassia seeds are mainly grown in southern China and other Asian countries such as India and Vietnam. Coffee beans are mainly produced in African countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya and Latin American countries such as Brazil and Colombia.

In addition, the difference between the two can also be seen in their uses. Cassia seed is widely used in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, and is often made into tea to clear away heat and detoxify, promote diuresis and reduce swelling. It can also be used to make food and health products. Coffee beans are one of the most popular beverages in the world. They are roasted into coffee powder and used to brew coffee.

In summary, although both Cassia seeds and coffee beans are plant seeds, they have significant differences in appearance, origin, and use. Therefore, we cannot regard them as the same substance. Understanding these differences will help us better understand their respective characteristics and correctly use the benefits they provide.
