Coffee bean varieties revealed: From Arabica to Robusta, how many do you know?

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and the variety of coffee beans determines the flavor and taste of the coffee. Globally, there are many different varieties of coffee beans, the most common of which include Arabica, Robusta and Rebecca.

Arabica is one of the most widely grown and consumed coffee bean varieties. It is usually grown in high altitude areas such as Central and South America, Africa and Asia. Arabica beans have a lower caffeine content and a rich and complex taste. They are often described as having floral, fruity or chocolate flavors and relatively high acidity. Due to their high-quality characteristics, Arabica beans tend to be more expensive.

In contrast to Arabica, Robusta is another major commercially cultivated coffee bean variety. Robusta grows at lower altitudes and is less demanding on environmental conditions. This results in a higher yield of Robusta beans and a relatively lower price. Robusta beans typically have a higher caffeine content and bitter taste, and a relatively rough taste. They are widely used to make strong and rich Italian coffee and drinks with a higher caffeine content.

In addition to Arabica and Robusta, Libeca is another less common but unique coffee bean variety. Libeca grows in Southeast Asia, such as the Philippines and Malaysia. Compared with the other two main varieties, Libeca beans are larger in shape and have a special fruity flavor. Despite its low production and small market share, Libeca is still favored by some coffee lovers.

In summary, the three most common coffee bean varieties worldwide are Arabica, Robusta, and Rebecca. Each variety has its own unique flavor characteristics and adaptability to environmental conditions, and plays an important role in different types of coffee. Whether you like the floral and complex taste of Arabica, prefer the rich bitter taste of Robusta, or want to try the unique flavor of Rebecca, the coffee world can satisfy your taste.
