Did you know that the color of your coffee cup can change the taste of your coffee?

Jiuge Toutiao News: When I was a kid, my favorite book was "100,000 Whys", and it's still my favorite now. Because there are so many wonderful things in the world. For example, a recent study in Australia found that the color of a coffee cup may change the taste of coffee!

Does this mean that the secret to a good cup of coffee may lie in choosing the right color of the coffee cup? Don’t worry, keep reading with Brother Jiu.

According to a report on the Washington Post website on December 9, the study investigated the effect of three different colors of coffee cups - white, blue and transparent glass - on taste differences. The researchers provided 18 participants with the same coffee in cups of similar shape but different colors, and then asked them to mark the sweetness, aroma, bitterness, quality and acceptability.

Researchers found that coffee drinkers experienced the same coffee differently depending on the color of the cup:

1. Coffee in a white cup tastes stronger;

2. The lightness of the transparent glass;

3. Coffee in a blue cup is “moderate”.

4. Regarding sweetness, participants indicated that coffee in white cups was less sweet than coffee in blue cups and clear glass cups.

So why does this difference occur? One explanation is that we never see colors in isolation, but in reference to other colors.

A red strawberry on a white plate looks redder than on a black plate. Charles Spence, a researcher at the University of Oxford, said this association, in turn, affects taste. "Red may represent a higher sweetness because red fruit tends to be riper than green fruit," he said. This symbolism is enough to cause a noticeable difference in taste.

It's also possible that certain colors are associated with certain feelings. Specifically, in this experiment, the researchers had a hunch. They thought that perhaps people associated brown with bitterness. "The white cup may affect people's perception of the brown color of coffee, which may affect the perception of coffee strength and sweetness," they wrote. This would help explain why the clear glass would have the opposite effect, since it diluted the color.

Do you prefer bitter coffee or milky coffee? Now you know which cup to choose~
