How to make hand-poured coffee: Utensils

Whether you use the soaking method or the filtering method, you will definitely need

Coffee beans (ground into powder), water (hot water)

And several other tools,

And a suitable coffee pot

Then let me tell you about it.

Some basic equipment literacy for hand brewing coffee

1. Bean grinder

Whether it is a traditional manual grinder or a modern electric grinder, the mechanical principle in the barrel is the same. Using two blades, one fixed and the other rotating, the coffee beans are crushed and ground between the blades. By simply adjusting the distance between the two blades, you can grind coffee powder of different fineness.

There are different types of grinders

They are:

a: Hand-cranked grinder

Grinding degree:

Adjustable with filter

advantage:

·High appearance

·Durable ceramic blade available

No need to plug in electricity, cheap, small and compact

shortcoming:

Coffee oil easily adheres to the blade

The grinding particle size cannot be uniform

b: Electric grinder

Grinding degree:

Different models can grind different degrees of fine powder

advantage:

Small size

Affordable price

shortcoming:

Slow speed

c: Italian coffee grinder

Grinding degree:

Delicate and fresh

advantage:

Can grind into very fine particles

·Coffee powder is freshly ground and brewed, so it is less likely to become sour and lose its flavor

shortcoming:

Will cause caking

2. Electronic scale

Just like making desserts, a digital scale is an indispensable tool when brewing filtered coffee. Using a measuring spoon or calculating the amount of water by volume (the volume of water will change due to temperature changes) is not accurate enough. You need a scale with a cup and powder to measure the amount of coffee powder and the actual amount of water needed. You need a digital scale with an accuracy of 0.1g, and the surface of the scale should be large enough to place the coffee cup and pot conveniently.

Three: Timer

Four: Hand-brewed kettle

Without a good hand-pour pot, it is impossible to make good filtered coffee. The so-called hand-pour pot refers to a special fine-mouth hand-pour pot. This fine-mouth pot has a better function of controlling water flow than a general hot water kettle, which helps to brew coffee with uniform texture.

Hario® and Bonavita® both have great pour-over kettles. The latter even has a temperature-controlled pour-over kettle that only has a 1°C temperature difference.

Five: filter paper

The filter paper is available in round or triangular cone shapes, suitable for siphon pots or V60 filter cups.

6. Filter cup

The filter cup was introduced in detail in a previous article

I won’t go into details here.
