What is a Piccolo Latte?
Piccolo latte, in Italian, "piccolo" means small, and latte means latte (i.e. milk). Because piccolo means "piccolo" in English, the name of piccolo latte coffee came into being. Traditional piccolo coffee is made by adding 15-20 ml of espresso to steamed milk. Nowadays, people are generally accustomed to pouring coffee into a 100 ml special glass cup for drinking.
How to make Piccolo Latte?
Piccolo Latte is more like a smaller version of latte, with a smaller cup, smaller capacity, and less coffee and milk than common Italian coffee. It needs to extract 15 to 20 grams of espresso and match it with 4 times the amount of milk.
Because Front Street Coffee does not produce Piccolo Latte, there is no special 100ml glass cup. Today's demonstration will be displayed in a 150ml cup, extracting 30 grams of espresso and pairing it with 120 grams of milk, with a ratio of coffee to milk of 1:4.
Today’s Piccolo Latte is made with the Sunflower Warm Sun blend used by the Front Street Coffee shop.
The coffee bean information is as follows:
Coffee bean name | Sunflower Warm Sunshine Blend |
Blended beans source | Honduran sherry barrels, Yirgacheffe cherry plan natural treatment |
Mixing ratio | 6:4 |
Flavor Description | Vanilla, cream, fermented wine, chocolate |
The espresso extraction protocol is as follows:
Coffee powder amount | 18 g |
Coffee volume | 30g |
Extraction time | 27 seconds |
What does a Piccolo Latte taste like?
The ratio of coffee to milk in Piccolo Latte is 1:4, so the espresso taste is very obvious, which can highlight the chocolate flavor of the Nuan Yang blend. It tastes richer than latte, but not as unacceptable as espresso. The milk foam is as smooth as latte, not as thin as flat white, nor as dense as cappuccino.
The whole cup of coffee tastes like a milkshake, with a distinct chocolate heart, rich, medium sweetness and a moderate aftertaste.
