3 steps to make coffee

3 steps to make coffee

Tang Yu has always been the kind of person who drinks coffee as medicine. Once he feels sleepy, he will make a cup of instant coffee to refresh himself. He doesn't care about the taste at all, and to be honest, instant coffee really doesn't have any taste.

Until a few days ago, I went to a coffee shop with the help of my boss and had a cup of hand-brewed coffee. It completely changed my worldview. I could feel the silky taste as soon as I took a sip.

"This moment is as smooth as silk"

After watching Dove’s commercials so many times, I actually felt it in a cup of coffee.

After the silky taste, the aftertaste spreads between the lips and teeth. Although it is still bitter, it is not as bitter as the instant black coffee that is usually brewed. Usually, when drinking black coffee, I frown after taking a sip, and I will not pick up the cup again until the strong bitterness has subsided.

This time, after every sip, I couldn't wait to take the next one, just wanting to keep the smooth taste filling my mouth. Before I knew it, I had finished half a cup.

After I got home, I still couldn't forget the wonderful taste, so I started to think about how to make such coffee at home. But after searching for a while, I wanted to give up...

Because hand brewing is too troublesome, and you need to master the correct hand brewing method and a lot of practice to brew a decent coffee. For someone like me who is only interested in coffee after a short period of time and lazy, it is simply unrealistic.

Until recently I discovered a magical tool - the French press

French Press

French press, dating back to the 1850s

In the 19th century, a kind of heat-resistant glass originated in France.

A simple bottle and a metal filter with a pressure rod

Brewing utensils.

The French press uses a steam extraction method that releases the aroma of coffee through the full contact between water and coffee powder and the steaming method of soaking coffee powder.

The French press does not use consumables such as filter paper and can be used permanently. The filter is made of ultra-dense stainless steel and cannot completely filter out fine molecules, so the taste will feel very thick when you drink it.

Most importantly, the operation of the French press is super simple. Put the powder, add water, wait for 3 minutes, and press the lever. A cup of coffee is ready.

1. Pour in ground coffee powder

2. Pour in 90℃~95℃ hot water

3. Cover the pot and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes

4. Press down the lever slowly and evenly

5. A cup of coffee is enough~

However, as the saying goes, quality comes from details, and the same is true for coffee. Because the French press uses the steaming extraction method, hot water directly contacts the coffee powder, which is too fine and prone to over-extraction, so the coffee powder particles used in the French press should not be too fine.

Therefore, it is recommended to grind the coffee powder for the French press with a manual grinder. Although it is a bit time-consuming, it can make the coffee brewed in the French press taste much better.
