The most fragrant knowledge! Do you know some little facts about coffee?

Some people regard it as the source of morning energy, some people regard it as the comfort of afternoon time. It is coffee, a drink popular all over the world, a classic, a culture, and a life attitude. Coffee has become a drink that can be seen everywhere in our lives, but how much do you know about it?

There are three main species of coffee beans. Arabica has the largest production, accounting for about 3/4 of the world's total production. It is mainly used for general drinking. Robusta coffee is mostly used as instant coffee. Liberian coffee has the least production and is mostly consumed in producing countries or European countries.

Coffee is a tropical plant that can only grow in the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. There are more than 60 countries in the world that produce coffee, among which Brazil has the largest production, accounting for about 1/3 of the total production, followed by Vietnam and Colombia. The coffee beans produced in this area have a strong flavor, and the quality and price are very stable. Other specialty producing areas include Ethiopia, which is the producer of the well-known single-origin coffee Yirgacheffe; the Sumatra region of Indonesia produces the calm and rich Mandheling; Jamaica produces high-quality and expensive Blue Mountain coffee.

Freshly harvested coffee beans have no taste. After the water is removed and the coffee beans are heated and roasted, chemical changes will occur, producing a strong volatile coffee aroma, as well as sourness and bitterness. The lighter the roasting degree, the stronger the sourness and the higher the caffeine content; the darker the roasting, the more bitter it is. There are basically eight roasting degrees.

There are so many coffee varieties. Once you step into a coffee shop, you will see single origin coffee, Italian coffee, Blue Mountain coffee, Mandheling coffee, cappuccino, latte, American coffee, etc. If you are new to coffee, you may be confused by the variety of coffee varieties. What are the differences between these coffee varieties? Let’s start with single origin coffee and Italian coffee.

Single origin coffee refers to a single style of coffee beans from a single country, a single production area or a single estate. Because each country is different in terms of its geographical region, climate, soil and other factors, the flavor of the coffee beans produced is also different. Tasting single origin coffee allows you to enjoy the flavors of coffee from different regions. For example, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe tastes charmingly floral and fruity, while Sumatra's Mandheling has a rich bitter and mellow aroma that makes people intoxicated. When tasting single origin coffee, milk or sugar is usually not added. Just taste the most original and natural flavor of the coffee beans, which is what single origin coffee lovers enjoy. The opposite of single origin coffee is blended coffee, which means mixing several single origin coffee beans. Usually, Italian coffee uses blended coffee beans.

Italian coffee is made with an Italian coffee machine, which uses atmospheric pressure to force hot water through coffee powder to extract coffee. With espresso as the base, Italian coffee can be made in many ways, such as adding milk, various syrups, fresh cream, etc. to make a variety of fancy coffees. For example, American coffee is Italian espresso diluted with hot water; latte is a portion of Italian espresso with a large amount of milk and a thin layer of milk foam; cappuccino is 1/3 cup of espresso plus 1/3 cup of hot milk and 1/3 cup of milk foam; and cappuccino is a portion of espresso plus fresh cream.

Coffee is not only a drink, but also a science. From the type of coffee beans, origin, roasting degree, and brewing method, the finished product will have a different flavor! If you don’t have your favorite coffee, whether it’s single origin or Italian coffee, you might as well try more and find your favorite coffee!
