Ancient Coffee Beans | Mocha Coffee Beans

Mocha is named after the famous Mocha Port. In the 15th century, the transportation industry in East Africa was very underdeveloped, but the most precious coffee beans in the world were produced here. These coffee beans were gathered in the Mocha Port in Yemen and shipped to Europe.

Mocha, Yemen, was a major export port near the Red Sea at that time. Today, Mocha Port has retreated inland due to the accumulation of silt, and emerging ports including Mombasa and Durban have replaced Mocha Port. However, at that time, all African coffee that was concentrated in Mocha Port and then exported was collectively called Mocha coffee. Therefore, the origin of Mocha coffee during the Mocha Port period is still preserved, and the coffee beans produced in these origins are still called Mocha coffee beans. This is the origin of the name "Mocha Coffee".

In fact, authentic "Mocha coffee" is only produced in the Republic of Yemen in the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula, growing on the steep mountainside at an altitude of 3,000 to 8,000 feet. It is also the oldest coffee in the world. Yemen coffee has the most unique, rich, and fascinating complex aroma in the world: red wine aroma, wild flavor, dried fruit flavor, blueberry, grape, cinnamon, tobacco, sweet spices, log flavor and even chocolate flavor. You can see all kinds of adjectives used on Yemen Mocha. Yemen Mocha has different schools due to different planting areas, just like the chocolate and sour taste of MATTARI Mocha and the wildness and fragrance of SANANI Mocha.

Traditionally, the best coffee beans in Yemen come from Mattari, followed by Sharki, and then Sanani, which have low caffeine content. The appearance of Mocha coffee beans is similar to that of Ethiopian Harrar coffee beans. It has small particles, high acidity, and a strange and indescribable spicy taste. If you taste it carefully, you can also discern a little chocolate flavor.

Deep roasted Yemeni coffee often has a bittersweet chocolate flavor, so the attempt to add chocolate to coffee was a very natural development process, which influenced today's fancy coffee flavored with chocolate sauce and also given the word "mocha".

The flavor of Yemen Mocha is complex and varied. For coffee roasters, how to roast the best flavor of Yemen Mocha is a big challenge! Medium-light roasting shows the sweet fruity aroma, mild and warm sun-dried fermented flavor; dark roasting shows the rich red wine aroma and bittersweet chocolate aftertaste.

Fancy Coffee | Café Mocha

Mocha coffee (also known as Moga or Mocha (transliteration), also translated as Arabic high-quality coffee, English is Café Mocha, which means chocolate coffee) is a variant of Italian latte (Café Latté). It is one of the oldest coffees, and its history can be traced back to the origin of coffee.

The name of Mocha coffee originated from the Red Sea coastal town of Mocha in Yemen. This place monopolized the export trade of coffee in the 15th century, and had a great influence on the coffee trade in the Arabian Peninsula.

Like the classic Italian latte, it is usually made of one-third Italian espresso (Caffè Espresso) and two-thirds milk foam, but it also adds a small amount of chocolate. Chocolate is usually added in the form of chocolate syrup, but some coffee vending systems use instant chocolate powder instead. Sometimes, whipped cream, cocoa powder, and marshmallows are added on top to intensify the aroma of the coffee and as a decoration.

Unlike Italian cappuccino, mocha coffee does not have fresh milk foam on top. Instead, mocha coffee is usually topped with some whipped cream and cinnamon or cocoa powder as a decoration and to increase the flavor. Another simple way is to use chocolate sauce to draw flowers.

In addition to white mocha coffee, there are some variants that mix two kinds of chocolate syrup, which are sometimes called "Zebras" and sometimes humorously called "Tuxedo Mocha". In some parts of Europe and the Middle East, Moccaccino is used to describe Italian latte with added cocoa or chocolate. In the United States, Moccaccino refers to Italian cappuccino with added chocolate.

It can be said that mocha coffee is the most fancy type of Italian coffee. Its unique chocolate aftertaste makes people linger in the mouth for three days.
