Second brewing of coffee beans: unlock more tastes and enjoy the aroma

Coffee is a must-have drink for many people every morning, and how to brew a cup of coffee with rich taste and overflowing aroma has become the focus of many coffee lovers. In addition to the traditional one-time brewing method, double brewing is gradually becoming popular. Through double brewing, we can further extract more flavor substances in coffee beans, making the coffee richer and more complex. This article will introduce how to brew coffee beans twice, and share some tips and precautions.

1. Preparation

Before the second brewing, you first need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • Freshly roasted premium coffee beans
  • Coffee grinder
  • Filter paper or metal filter
  • Kettle or kettle
  • Electronic scale or spoon (for measuring the ratio of coffee beans to water)
  • Coffee pot or other container (for brewing and pouring coffee)

Make sure the above tools and materials are clean and hygienic to avoid affecting the taste of the coffee.

2. Grinding and brewing ratio

Grinding the beans is a very important step in secondary brewing. A coarser grind allows water to pass through the coffee beans more smoothly, thereby extracting more flavor substances. Choose the appropriate grind according to your personal taste preference.

When brewing twice, a higher concentration of coffee liquid is usually used for dilution. It is recommended to use a ratio of 1:15 to 1:17 (that is, 1 gram of coffee corresponds to 15 to 17 ml of water) for secondary brewing.

3. Cooling and filtration

After the first brewing is completed, remove the wet filter paper or metal filter that has been used once, and place the remaining concentrated liquid that has not been poured out in a sealed container to cool. This can prevent the coffee liquid from oxidizing and deteriorating.

When the coffee liquid is completely cooled, filter it with filter paper or metal filter. This step can remove the remaining solid particles and sediment, making the second brewed coffee clearer and better tasting.

4. Second brewing

After preparing the filtered coffee liquid, we can start the second brewing. Here are the specific steps:

  1. Adjust the grinder to the appropriate grind size and put the freshly roasted high-quality coffee beans you want to use into it.
  2. Use an electronic scale or spoon to measure out the appropriate proportion of coffee beans and pour them into a clean container without impurities.
  3. Preheat the water you need to use in the kettle or kettle and control the temperature (usually between 90℃ and 95℃).
  4. Slowly and evenly pour the pre-heated and temperature-controlled water into the container containing the coffee beans so that the coffee beans are fully immersed in the water.
  5. Wait for a certain amount of time (usually 3 to 4 minutes) to allow the coffee beans to fully release their flavor.
  6. Pour the brewed coffee liquid into a cup or other container, and you can enjoy the fragrant double-brewed coffee.

5. Notes

When performing secondary brewing, there are several things to pay special attention to:

  • Choose high-quality freshly roasted coffee beans. Only high-quality raw materials can ensure that the final brewed coffee tastes better.
  • Control the water temperature and grind size. Different types and brands of coffee beans may require different temperatures and grind sizes to achieve the best results, so adjust according to the actual situation.
  • Follow the exact proportions. Too much or too little water will affect the final taste, so make sure you weigh the exact amount of water and coffee beans you need.
  • Pay attention to the cooling and filtering of the coffee liquid. These two steps have an important impact on the taste after the second brewing, so they must be carried out carefully.

Through the above steps and precautions, we can easily perform the second brewing of coffee beans and enjoy a richer and more mellow taste. Different types and grinding degrees of coffee beans will bring different flavor characteristics, so you can try different combinations according to your preferences and find the second brewing method that best suits your taste.
