What are the differences between Italian coffee and American coffee besides the different ways of making them?

A very common type of coffee in coffee shops is called American coffee. Although it is called American coffee, it is actually Italian coffee. So what is the difference between Italian coffee and American coffee?

The main difference between espresso and Americano is the extraction method.

Italian coffee refers to coffee brewed using Italian coffee machines, moka pots and other Italian coffee brewing utensils.

When you see the handle involved in the production process, you can be sure it is espresso. The coffee powder is loaded into the handle and compacted by the tamper. The powder creates resistance to the water, and the water pump of the coffee machine continuously presses the hot water up, creating pressure, and espresso is produced in this process.

Espresso is a very strong drink. If you add milk, water, syrup, cream, chocolate or other things to espresso, it becomes a series of coffees such as cappuccino, latte, caramel macchiato, mocha, etc. As mentioned earlier, the more common coffee in coffee shops - Americano, is made by adding water to espresso.

American coffee refers to black coffee made with drip filter, French press and other equipment, such as common hand-brewed coffee, Aeropress and so on.

Another difference between Italian coffee and American coffee is the difference in coffee beans. Italian coffee is mostly made from coffee beans of different origins and varieties, in order to pursue a richer and more layered taste, and most of them are deeply roasted coffee beans.

American coffee is mostly made from coffee beans from the same origin or a small amount of beans with similar taste, in order to pursue the mellow taste brought by a single variety. There are many roasting methods, such as deep roasting, medium deep roasting and medium roasting.
