Can you make coffee with a siphon pot?

Brewing coffee with a siphon pot, like hand-brewed coffee, is a favorite of coffee lovers. Watching the water flow from the lower pot into the upper pot after being heated and boiled, and then flow back down after the coffee liquid is extracted, this whole process is easy to fascinate people.

In 1840, the British Napier invented the siphon pot through a glass test tube in the laboratory. After being improved by the French Madame Bachand, it became popular in France, but remained tepid. It was not until the mid-20th century that it was introduced to Japan and Denmark. After being carefully crafted by Danish designers, the first siphon pot was launched under the name of Santos.

The modern siphon pot is composed of an upper pot, a lower pot, a filter, a bracket and other accessories.

As for the mysterious principle of the siphon pot, to put it simply, the extraction principle of the siphon pot is to utilize the pressure difference caused by thermal expansion and contraction.

First, heat the water in the lower pot to boil, and insert the upper pot, so that the lower pot is in a vacuum state. Due to the pressure difference between the upper and lower pots, the hot water in the lower pot and the coffee powder in the upper pot are mixed and fully contacted, and extraction begins. After the extraction is completed, the lower pot is no longer heated. The water vapor shrinks when it cools, which reduces the pressure difference between the upper and lower pots. Due to gravity, the coffee liquid in the upper pot will flow back to the lower pot, and the coffee powder will be filtered out by the filter.

The siphon pot may look very complicated, but in fact everyone can use it to make delicious coffee. The siphon pot has the unique advantages of both the coffee immersion method and the drip method. The coffee powder can be fully combined and soaked with water, and the coffee tastes pure. In general, the taste of siphon coffee is full and bright .

Siphon coffee pot brewing method

1

Heat water in the lower kettle until boiling.

2

Insert the upper pot with the strainer, rubber gasket and water pipe into the lower pot. The rubber gasket acts as a seal .

3

Gas is generated by heating, which expands in the lower pot and pushes the water in the lower pot into the upper pot through the water pipe.

4

Once all the water has risen and reached the appropriate temperature , add the coffee grounds and stir to fully infuse them. Brew for one minute.

5

Remove the lower pot from the heater and quickly wipe the lower pot with a cool towel. The cold air contracts, creating a vacuum-like environment under negative pressure, pushing the coffee liquid in the upper pot back to the lower pot through the filter.

(Note: A cool towel can only be used if the lower pot is made of borosilicate glass , i.e., shatter-proof glass.)

6

Remove the upper pot with coffee grounds.

7

Pour the coffee into the cup and enjoy the delicious coffee!
