The whole process of coffee bean picking revealed

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and coffee beans are the key ingredient in making coffee. However, few people know what the coffee bean picking process is like. In this article, we will reveal the entire process of coffee beans from planting to picking.

Planting stage

First, during the planting stage, farmers need to choose soil and climate conditions suitable for growing coffee trees. Generally speaking, high altitude areas and warm and humid climates are very important for cultivating high-quality coffee beans. Farmers will open up an area on the land specifically for growing coffee trees and carry out farming, fertilization and other work.

Growth stage

When the seedlings are transplanted into the field, they will go through a growing period. During this stage, farmers need to regularly provide sufficient sunlight, water and nutrients to promote the growth of the seedlings. At the same time, farmers also need to prune and weed the coffee trees to ensure that they can grow healthily.

Flowering and fruiting stages

After about three to five years, the coffee tree begins to bloom and bear fruit. This is a very important stage because only ripe fruits can be picked for making coffee beans. During this stage, farmers need to regularly check the maturity of the fruits and choose the right time to pick them.

Picking stage

When the coffee beans reach the ideal maturity, farmers can start picking. Usually, they will manually peel the ripe coffee cherries from the tree and put them into baskets or bags. This process requires patience and skills, because only by correctly judging which cherries are fully ripe can the best quality coffee beans be obtained.

Handling and processing

Once a sufficient number of coffee cherries have been collected, they need to be peeled, de-skinned and de-pulped before processing. There are usually two methods for this process: dry method and wet method. The dry method is to dry the coffee cherries in the sun until the cherries dry and fall off the outer skin; the wet method is to soak the coffee cherries in water and then separate the pulp through mechanical treatment.

Baking stage

The last step is to roast the coffee beans. Farmers will send the processed coffee beans to a specialized roasting plant, which will go through a series of processes and adjustments to achieve the desired taste and aroma. Different degrees of roasting will produce coffee beans with different flavor characteristics.

In summary, from planting to picking to processing and roasting, each link has an important impact on the final quality. Understanding these processes can help us better appreciate and enjoy a cup of high-quality coffee.
