The perfect guide: how to brew coffee and how much to use

Coffee is a must-have drink for many people every morning. It not only refreshes the mind, but also helps improve mood. However, making a perfect cup of coffee is not an easy task. This article will introduce you to several common coffee brewing methods and the correct amount, hoping to help you make delicious coffee with a strong taste and aroma at home.

1. Drip coffee

Drip coffee is one of the most common and simplest ways to brew coffee. All you need is filter paper, a filter, and the right amount of ground coffee to start making it.

First, place a filter paper on the filter and fix it on the filter. Next, choose the appropriate amount and texture according to the number of cups you need to make, and evenly distribute the appropriate size teaspoon (about 10 grams) into each bag; if you don't have a weighing tool, you can add coffee powder and water in a ratio of about 1:15 (ie 1 gram: 15 ml).

Then, slowly pour hot water (about 90-96°C) into the filter to allow the coffee powder to fully contact the water. While pouring water, you can rotate the coffee powder to make it evenly wet. Wait for about 3-4 minutes until all the water flows out through the filter paper.

Finally, remove the filter from the dripper and give it a gentle shake to ensure all the coffee comes out. Now you can enjoy a cup of fragrant and rich-tasting drip coffee.

2. French Press

A French press, also known as a "French Press," is ideal for making full-flavored coffee. The following steps are required to make coffee using a French press:

First, add an appropriate teaspoon (about 10 grams) of coarse-grinded coffee powder (similar to sea salt) to the French press; if you don’t have a weighing tool, you can add coffee powder and water in a ratio of about 1:15 (1 gram: 15 ml).

Then, pour in hot water (about 90-96°C) and stir gently with a stirring stick to mix the coffee powder and water thoroughly. Next, put the filter lid on the French press and slowly press the piston down to the bottom.

Wait about 4-5 minutes for the coffee to fully soak. During the waiting process, you can rotate the French press pot appropriately to increase the soaking evenly.

Finally, after the steeping time is complete, slowly push the piston upwards. This will allow the coffee grounds to be separated through the filter. Now you can pour out and enjoy a cup of French press coffee with a rich taste and aroma.

3. Espresso

Espresso is one of the traditional ways to make espresso (Italian for "quick"). To make the perfect espresso, you need an espresso machine and the following steps:

First, pour cold water into the espresso machine's water tank and turn on the preheat switch. Wait a few minutes until the water in the tank reaches the appropriate temperature (about 90°C).

Next, add an appropriate teaspoon (about 18-20 grams) of finely ground (powder-like) coffee powder to the filter basket of the coffee machine; if you don't have a weighing tool, you can add coffee powder and water in a ratio of about 1:2 (that is, 1 gram: 2 ml).

Then, insert the filter basket into the espresso machine and start the steeping process. Best results are achieved with high pressure during the steeping period. Typically, espresso takes 15-30 seconds to be ready.

Finally, after the soaking process is completed, turn off the espresso machine and pour out the espresso you made. Now you can add milk or other coffee seasonings according to your personal taste to make your favorite latte, cappuccino and other Italian specialty drinks.

4. Cold Brew Coffee

Cold brew coffee is a special method of brewing coffee that extracts the aroma and taste of coffee through a long steeping process. To make the perfect cold brew coffee, you need to follow these steps:

First, add an appropriate amount of teaspoon (about 10 grams) of coarse-grained (similar to sea salt) ground coffee powder into a container; if you don’t have a weighing tool, you can add coffee powder and water in a ratio of about 1:8 (1 gram: 8 ml).

Then, slowly pour cold water into the container so that all the coffee grounds are moistened. Next, gently stir with a stirring stick to ensure even soaking.

Cover the container and leave it at room temperature for 12-24 hours. After the waiting time is up, use filter paper or a fine-mesh filter to filter out the residue.

Finally, after completing the filtering process, you can drink the cold brew coffee directly or add ice cubes, milk and other condiments to make iced latte, mocha and other drinks of your favorite flavor.
