Coffee is a drink made from coffee beans, which are the fruit picked from the coffee tree. There are three main steps to making a delicious cup of coffee: picking and processing, roasting and grinding, and brewing. First, picking and processing are key steps to ensure high-quality coffee beans. When the berries on the coffee trees are ripe, workers will pick them from the trees by hand or mechanically. These berries, called "cherries", usually contain two seeds, which we call "coffee beans". Soon after picking, these cherries are peeled and the moist and sticky yellow or green germ inside is exposed. Secondly, before proceeding to the next step, the wet germs must be processed to remove excess water. The most common and traditional method is to place the wet germs on large platforms to dry for several days to complete this process. However, in modern production, special equipment such as dryers can also be used to speed up this process. After the processing is completed, the moisture content of the coffee beans will be controlled within the appropriate range. Finally, the processed and dried coffee beans are sent to the roasting plant for roasting and grinding. At this stage, the coffee beans are exposed to high temperatures and heated to varying degrees to change their color, taste, and aroma. There are usually three main types of roasting: light, medium, and dark. Each type produces coffee beans with different flavor characteristics. Once the desired degree of roasting is completed, the coffee beans can be crushed or broken into a powder state, which is what we call "coffee powder". This is done to increase the surface area and release more aroma substances, which are easier to contact with water when brewing. Choose the appropriate fineness (such as fine, medium and coarse) according to personal taste preferences and brewing methods. In summary, there are several key steps from picking to brewing to tasting a delicious and mellow cup of coffee. Picking and processing ensure the quality of the coffee beans, roasting and grinding give the coffee beans a specific flavor, and finally brewing mixes them with water to release the delicious aroma. Whether at home or in a professional coffee shop, these steps need to be carefully performed to make a perfect cup of coffee. |
