Coffee beans are a common ingredient in our daily life. They go through a series of processes to become the coffee we love. From growing to roasting, let's take a comprehensive look. First of all, the growth of coffee beans requires suitable climate and soil conditions. Most coffee trees grow in tropical regions, such as South America, Africa, and Asia. These regions usually have warm and humid climates, and the altitude also has an important impact on the quality of coffee beans. For example, coffee beans grown in high-altitude mountains tend to have a more sour and floral flavor. Secondly, when the coffee fruit is ripe, farmers will pick it and process it. Inside the fruit are two seeds (the so-called "coffee beans"), which need to be processed through peeling, fermentation, cleaning and other steps. The most critical step is the fermentation process, during which the pulp is decomposed by microorganisms, and the pulp remaining on the seeds can be completely removed by flushing with water. Finally, coffee beans need to be roasted to become the coffee we know as coffee. During the roasting process, coffee beans are subjected to high temperatures, which allows the internal moisture to evaporate and produce special chemical reactions. Different degrees of roasting will give coffee different tastes and flavors. For example, lightly roasted coffee has a sour and floral aroma; while deep roasting produces bitterness and cocoa aroma. |
