How to judge the taste of coffee beans?

The taste of coffee beans is one of the important indicators for judging the quality of a cup of coffee. The taste of coffee beans of different types and roasting degrees will also vary. Here is how to judge the quality of coffee beans.

First, look at the appearance of the coffee beans. High-quality coffee beans usually have a smooth and uniform surface and bright color. If you see spots or uneven colors, it may mean that the beans are of poor quality or defective.

Next, smell the aroma. Put the freshly ground coffee powder in a cup and let it sit for a while. The smell can be divided into two steps: dry aroma and wet aroma. Dry aroma refers to the smell before adding water, while wet aroma is the smell produced after adding an appropriate amount of boiling water.

Finally, taste the coffee. After brewing and cooling down slightly (about 60-70 degrees Celsius), taste the black coffee slowly and let it stay on your tongue for a while to fully experience the taste of the coffee. Good coffee beans should have a balanced acidity, sweetness and bitterness, and a rich and smooth taste. If the coffee tastes too sour or too bitter, it may mean that the roasting degree is not right or the quality of the beans is problematic.
