What do coffee beans look like?

Coffee beans are the fruit of a plant that grows on the coffee tree. The coffee tree belongs to a plant species that scientists call "Coffee" and is mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. When we imagine coffee beans, many of us may think of those small and uniform brown particles.

However, in nature, coffee beans don’t always appear like this. In fact, they go through several stages during their growth.

First, when the flowers open, they are usually white or light yellow and have a fragrance. These flowers are very small and beautiful, blooming with charming brilliance in the sun.

The flowers then wither and transform into fruit, a process that takes several weeks to complete. The fruit initially looks like a small berry or cherry and is bright red, yellow or green in color.

As time goes by and the fruit matures, it becomes harder and its color gradually changes to dark red or purple. At this time, the coffee bean inside the fruit has formed and begins to expand.

Finally, when the berries are fully ripe, they take on a cherry-like appearance. These coffee cherries typically have a red or yellow skin that shines attractively in the sun.

However, before harvesting, farmers need to carefully choose the right time. They must wait until the coffee beans are fully ripe and reach the best quality before picking. This is because only after they are fully ripe can the coffee beans have the best taste and flavor.

To summarize, while we usually imagine coffee beans as small, uniform brown particles, they actually go through several stages to reach this form. From flower to fruit to final harvest, coffee beans grow, change, and develop.
