The mystery of the coffee bean price gap: Why is there such a big difference?

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world, but the price of coffee beans varies greatly. Why are some coffee beans so expensive while others are relatively cheap? This question involves many factors, including origin, variety and processing method.

First of all, the origin is one of the important factors that affect the price difference of coffee beans. Coffee beans produced in different countries and regions have different characteristics and flavors. For example, coffee beans from the Blue Mountain region of Jamaica are famous for their delicate and smooth taste and rich aroma. Due to the fertile soil and suitable climate in the region, and the use of fine farming technology named after coffee, the coffee beans produced in this producing area are in short supply, which makes its price high.

Secondly, the price difference will also be caused by the variety. There are many varieties of coffee circulating in the market, including two major types: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is a high-quality coffee bean with a lower caffeine content and a more complex taste. Robusta is a relatively cheap and pest-resistant variety suitable for use in large-scale production. Since Arabica coffee beans are relatively less in supply on the market, the price is often higher.

Finally, the processing method will also affect the price difference of coffee beans. Different processing methods will make the coffee beans present different flavors and characteristics. For example, dry-processed coffee beans obtained by dry processing (natural processing) usually have a strong and naturally sweet fruity aroma; while wet-processed coffee beans obtained by wet processing (washing processing) are easier to remove impurities, and have a more refreshing taste and higher acidity. Since wet processing requires a lot of manpower and material resources, and can only be operated in specific areas, the price of coffee beans produced by this method is relatively high.

In summary, after considering multiple factors such as origin, variety and processing method, we can see the reasons for the huge price difference of coffee beans. Coffee beans produced in different origins have different characteristics and flavors, and the variety and processing method will further affect the price of coffee beans. Therefore, consumers should make choices based on their needs and budget when buying coffee.
