Civil Aviation Resources Network, December 5, 2019: According to Travel Weekly, in order to achieve sustainable development goals, Air New Zealand has launched edible vanilla-flavored coffee cups. Developed by New Zealand company Twiice, the cup is made from corn and paper. In addition to being edible, the cup is leak-proof and heat-resistant, and apparently also delicious, remaining crunchy for a while after pouring coffee into it, making it a great cookie to eat after your coffee on a flight. Air New Zealand currently serves more than eight million cups of coffee a year. Prior to launching the edible cups, the airline had previously switched to plant-based cups. "In Air New Zealand lounges we serve around 600 cups of coffee every morning so it's great to have something like an edible coffee cup that's both fun and environmentally friendly," said Air New Zealand lounge manager Carolyn Miller. "I found it enjoyable. It's a great way to finish my coffee," one passenger told Air New Zealand. Another traveler said: "I was so impressed with this coffee, I just ordered two boxes as Christmas gifts." Twiice co-founder Jamie Cashmore said the edible cups proved innovative packaging was possible. Air New Zealand will continue to trial the edible coffee cups and work with other partners to explore the possibility of rolling them out for longer-term use. In addition, Air New Zealand's innovative move may urge other airlines to accelerate their sustainable pace. Thank you for your feedback, we will recommend fewer articles like this |
