The difference between specialty coffee and instant coffee

The difference between specialty coffee and instant coffee

With the fourth wave of coffee, more and more boutique coffee shops have emerged, and coffee lovers are increasingly inclined to boutique coffee. The boutique coffee market is slowly opening up. Consumers who are not familiar with coffee have certain cognitive misunderstandings about instant coffee and boutique coffee. In the past, instant coffee dominated the market, which led consumers to be hesitant about the emergence of boutique coffee. In fact, boutique coffee is the choice of life attitude.

1. Different production processes

Instant coffee : Instant coffee is made into small soluble particles through some freeze-drying and other technologies. Because it is produced in batches and a series of flavors, stabilizers, etc. are added, good and bad beans are mixed together. After being seasoned with additives, the taste of the beans themselves is covered.

Specialty coffee : Specialty coffee is made by coffee farmers who pick coffee berries and then process them manually by washing, sun drying or honey treatment. The skin is peeled to make green coffee beans, defective beans are selected, and then packaged and sold. After reaching the customer, they are selected and roasted. The whole process is generally more sophisticated and delicate. The grade of coffee beans is required to be high.

2. Different ingredients

Instant coffee : In addition to coffee extract plants, there are also a small amount of additives to maintain the stability of instant coffee or enhance the flavor of instant coffee. If it is a two-in-one or three-in-one coffee, more additives will be added, such as non-dairy creamer (that is, creamer), emulsifiers, antagonists, glucose syrup, flavors, etc.

Specialty coffee : Specialty coffee is the coffee bean itself, which contains sugars, fats, proteins, as well as trace elements such as caffeine, tannins and alkaloids.

3. Flavor

Instant coffee : The aroma of instant coffee is lost too much during the preparation process, so additives are used to enhance the aroma. In addition, instant coffee mainly uses cheap and slightly inferior Robusta beans. The flavor is mainly industrialized essence.

Specialty coffee : Due to different production areas and processing methods, different specialty coffees have various natural flavors, such as floral or fruity aromas, or various nut and chocolate flavors. Drinking specialty coffee is a very interesting thing.

4. Different brewing methods

Instant coffee : You can drink it immediately after making it with hot water. The powder is completely soluble in water. Generally, 85 degrees Celsius is the best water temperature. Good quality instant coffee will not have any impurities after being dissolved in water.

Specialty coffee : Specialty coffee has very high production requirements. The simplest way is to use a semi-automatic espresso machine, but you also need to know the degree of grinding of the coffee beans. This is because different coarse and fine powders will have different flavors after extraction. Only the appropriate degree of grinding can maximize the flavor of the beans.

5. Advantages and Disadvantages

Instant coffee : Instant coffee provides convenience; but the additives in it are harmful to the body.

Boutique coffee : Just like tea, it is a natural and healthy drink; the production process is demanding and requires matching coffee utensils, which is relatively expensive.
