Can't tell the difference between heroin, cocaine, and caffeine? Read this article to find out

We can understand that there are three addictive substances that are often vague, and even their names are confusing, especially two of them. At first glance, they are not much different in color or appearance. In fact, although these "three factors" are classified as drugs, they are completely different.

The three we are talking about are: heroin, cocaine, and caffeine.

1. Heroin

Heroin is the most dangerous of the three because it is an old traditional drug. It is the general name for a series of morphine drugs. It is a semi-synthetic drug obtained with morphine alkaloids as the starting point of synthesis. It is extremely harmful to human physical and mental health. If heroin is injected or smoked for a long time, it may cause personality disintegration, psychopathy and shortened lifespan, especially causing obvious damage to the human nervous system.

Initially, heroin was used clinically as a drug to help people quit morphine addiction, but later people discovered that heroin was more addictive than morphine. This greater dependence means that heroin is more addictive. Later, through understanding and experimenting with various drugs, people came to the conclusion that heroin is the opioid with the highest incidence and greatest harm. It is believed that this is a chronic recurrent brain disease characterized by compulsive continuous drug use and a high relapse rate, and the addiction mechanism is very complex.

In today's world, heroin has unsurprisingly become the most widely abused drug. Among all drugs, drug crime cases involving heroin manufacturing, smuggling, and abuse have always ranked first. Heroin was once recognized by the world as the king of world drugs .

The base of heroin users in my country is also particularly large. Unlike the widespread use of marijuana in Europe and the United States, a large proportion of drug users in China are still using heroin.

Currently, there is no effective way to quit heroin because its mechanism of action is still unclear, and the relapse rate among heroin users is still very high.

2. Cocaine

The earliest source of cocaine is the leaves of the coca plant. As early as the 16th century, Spanish explorers discovered that South American natives would chew coca leaves to refresh themselves. The anesthetic components extracted from the coca leaves were refined into a high-purity substance, which became cocaine, also known as cocaine.

In medicine, cocaine is used as a local anesthetic or vasoconstrictor. Because of its good anesthetic effect and strong penetration, cocaine is suitable for surface anesthesia clinically. Later, because cocaine is so toxic, it is no longer suitable for injection. Moreover, it has a strong effect and is a natural central nervous system stimulant. It can excite the human central nervous system and lead to abuse. Therefore, it eventually became one of the world's major drugs and is widely used in America and Europe.

Cocaine can damage the human digestive system, immune system, cardiovascular system, and urinary and reproductive systems.

3. Caffeine

I believe that caffeine is more familiar to everyone than the above two. For example, the coffee we drink to refresh ourselves while working and studying contains caffeine. But don’t be afraid. If coffee is a drug, then we should have disappeared from the market long ago.

The reason we can still drink coffee today is that the caffeine content in normal coffee drinks is not high enough to make us addicted, but pure caffeine is an addictive poison.

Caffeine is an alkaloid compound and also a central nervous system stimulant. Caffeine can temporarily drive away sleepiness and restore energy. It is clinically used to treat neurasthenia and coma resuscitation. It is a psychotropic drug. Currently, substances containing caffeine include coffee, tea, soft drinks and energy drinks.

Compared with heroin and cocaine, caffeine does not have such a strong psychological dependence and its damage to humans is the mildest among the three. However, even if it is mild, caffeine still has the function of stimulating the central nervous system and is addictive.

Our country classifies caffeine as a "psychotropic drug" and it is also a drug.

It is essential for everyone to master certain drug knowledge. Only by understanding the appearance, characteristics and symptoms of drugs can we better avoid being harmed by drugs. We cannot generalize, be vague or even confused about any drug. Different drugs produce different symptoms and have different harms to the human body. Only by understanding it can we better defeat it and better prevent and treat it.
