Coffee Harvesting: The Journey from Farm to Cup

Coffee Harvesting: The Journey from Farm to Cup

Coffee plantations in the fields

The journey of coffee begins in the farmland. Planters put a lot of effort into cultivating high-quality coffee beans. First, they choose the soil and climate conditions that are suitable for growing coffee trees. Then, they sow in the right season and regularly provide sufficient water and sunlight. In addition, they also have to regularly prune branches, weed, and fertilize.

Fruit ripening and picking

After months of patient waiting, it is finally time for the fruit to be ripe and picked. When the coffee fruit turns bright red, it means that the inside is full of sweet and rich coffee beans. The pickers will carefully select each fruit that is ripe and not affected by insects or other damage.

Peeling and fermentation

Once picked, the fresh harvest needs to be peeled. This step is usually done by putting the fruit into a special machine to remove the skin. The coffee beans are then placed in a fermentation tank for fermentation. This process helps remove the mucilage from the pulp and increase the flavor of the coffee beans.

Drying and baking

After fermentation, the coffee beans need to be dried to reduce the moisture content. Usually, growers will spread the coffee beans on special platforms and expose them to the sun for a few days. Once the appropriate moisture content is reached, they can be roasted.

Grinding and Brewing

After buying roasted coffee beans in the market, we need to grind them to get the final coffee powder with rich and mellow taste. Choose the appropriate coarseness to grind manually or mechanically according to different preferences and brewing methods.

Taste and enjoy

The last step is to taste and enjoy this delicious cup of coffee! With the help of various methods such as drip, espresso, French press, etc., the unique flavor and aroma of coffee can be perfectly released. Whether at home or in a coffee shop, you can feel the journey from farmland to cup through this cup of coffee.
