01. Scientists announce another magical effect of drinking coffee!

Diabetes is currently one of the most prevalent diseases in the world, with more than 380 million diabetic patients worldwide.

Every year, heart diseases and other diseases caused by diabetes kill nearly 80,000 people.

For patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, insulin injections are an important part of their daily lives. However, while insulin injections are an effective treatment, they are not perfect.

But the good news that may benefit countless diabetic patients is that the effectiveness of insulin may be replaced by coffee in the future!

According to the Daily Mail, researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich are working on a new diabetes treatment.

The key to the new treatment is: coffee.

The team found that a type of kidney cell responds by producing insulin if it detects caffeine in the bloodstream.

Subsequently, they conducted an experiment on 10 diabetic mice. When the mice drank coffee, their ability to control blood sugar levels was better than that of ordinary mice!

The research team said that humans also have similar kidney cells, and the specific mechanism of insulin production needs to be further determined.

In fact, this experimental result is not groundless. A study conducted by Harvard University in the United States on 126,000 people showed that people who drink coffee regularly have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

This research brings hope to many diabetic patients. Perhaps in the future, diabetic patients can simply enjoy a cup of coffee to stimulate insulin production and completely eliminate the need for additional injections!

02. Coffee can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer!

A recent study reported by Stephanie L. Schmit et al. from the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Southern California in (Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev) has deepened people's love for coffee - coffee can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by 26%.

Methods: A validated, semiquantitative coffee consumption frequency questionnaire was developed for 5145 patients with colorectal cancer and 4097 healthy subjects without a history of colorectal cancer in this population-based molecular epidemiological study of colorectal cancer in northern Israel.

Research data show that after correcting known risk factors, moderate (1 to 2 servings a day) coffee consumption can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by 26%. And as coffee consumption increases, the risk of colorectal cancer gradually decreases, and this trend is obvious in both colon cancer and rectal cancer.

Surprisingly, caffeine didn't work alone. The researchers said, " Coffee contains a variety of ingredients that promote colorectal health . Caffeine and polyphenols have antioxidant effects, melanoidins can promote colon motility, and diterpenes can resist oxidative stress damage."

03. Coffee reduces cancer recurrence rate in patients with colon cancer!

Researchers at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute published a study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology stating that regular coffee drinking can significantly reduce tumor recurrence and improve the survival rate of patients with stage 3 colon cancer.

The study followed the dietary patterns of 953 colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy for six months and found that those who drank four or more cups of coffee a day (about 460 mg of caffeine) were 42% less likely to have their cancer relapse than those who did not drink coffee . During the follow-up period, those who regularly drank four or more cups of coffee were 33% less likely to die from cancer or any other cause than those who did not drink coffee.

Further analysis suggested that the lower cancer risk was due to the amount of caffeine the patients consumed, rather than the amount of other components of coffee.

04. Coffee reduces the risk of liver cancer!

Researchers from the Department of Clinical Sciences and Public Health of the University of Milan and the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacology in Milan, Italy, once published a report in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology stating that consuming any type of coffee may reduce the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by up to 50% (the extent of the reduction depends on the amount consumed).

The report examined 16 studies conducted between 1996 and 2012, totaling 3,153 cases. The researchers said that the positive effect of coffee in preventing liver cancer may be due to coffee's well-known ability to prevent diabetes , which is one of the factors that cause liver cancer, or that coffee can prevent cirrhosis and have a beneficial effect on enzymes in the liver.

05. Coffee reduces the risk of melanoma!

A study published on January 20, 2015 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute showed that drinking more than four cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of skin cancer by 20% over ten years.

The study looked at 447,000 subjects, including 124 food questionnaires, aged 50 to 71, who were cancer-free at the start of the study. During the more than 10-year study, more than 2,900 subjects developed malignant melanoma and more than 1,900 developed another type of skin cancer: melanoma in situ.

Excluding factors such as age, diet, family history, and considering only the relationship between caffeinated coffee and melanoma, drinking more than four cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of skin cancer by 20% in ten years.

In theory, the various components of coffee have been shown to affect a number of molecular pathways that could reduce the risk of UV-related skin cancer, but such a large human study is still very convincing.

06.Coffee can inhibit the growth of breast cancer!

Researchers at Skane University Hospital, Lund University in the UK, published their findings in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, saying that for women diagnosed with breast cancer and treated with tamoxifen, drinking coffee can inhibit tumor growth and reduce the risk of recurrence.

The study, which included 1,090 patients diagnosed with primary invasive breast cancer in Sweden, evaluated the relationship between two substances commonly found in Swedish coffee: caffeine and caffeic acid, and tumor characteristics and disease-free survival.

The results showed that among at least 500 women receiving tamoxifen treatment, those who drank at least two cups of coffee a day had half the risk of breast cancer recurrence, compared with women who drank less than two cups or no coffee, and had smaller tumors and a lower proportion of hormone-dependent tumors.

The researchers believe that caffeine and caffeic acid can lead to blocked cell cycle progression and enhanced cell death , enhancing the effect of tamoxifen treatment.

07. Coffee reduces the risk of head and neck cancer!

A survey on head and neck cancer conducted by the Aichi Cancer Center in Japan found that people who drink more than three cups of coffee a day have about 40% lower risk of head and neck cancer than those who drink less than one cup.

08.How much coffee should you drink every day?

Coffee has many benefits, but everything has its limits. How much coffee is good to drink every day? No one can tell, so let's look at scientific research!

Professor Hu of Harvard School of Public Health and his colleagues conducted a large study, suggesting that among never-smoking subjects, the risk of all-cause mortality decreased by 6%, 8%, 15% and 12% for subjects who drank ≤1 cup, 1-3 cups, 3-5 cups and >5 cups of coffee per day, respectively. The reduction in mortality was mainly related to the reduction in cardiovascular mortality, neurological disease mortality and suicide mortality. This study was published in the journal Circulation on November 16, 2015.

Combined with some previous studies on reducing cancer risk, perhaps 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day is a good choice.
