Occasionally, I would hear friends who come to buy coffee beans ask whether our coffee beans are male or female. For a moment, I was confused because I really had never paid attention to this issue. I was more aware of the origin and roasting degree of the coffee beans, but I was indeed lacking in the issue of male and female. So Xiaolu quickly did some scientific research and sorted out this issue to tell everyone. Actually! There is no distinction between male and female coffee beans. This is just a commonly accepted name , not the meaning of male and female as everyone thinks.
First of all, the coffee tree belongs to the Rubiaceae family of the Gentianales order. The flowers it blooms are hermaphroditic plants with two organs. It is like if coffee beans fall into the picture and grow and germinate, they will naturally grow fruit. So there is no distinction between male and female coffee trees, so how can there be a distinction between male and female coffee beans?
During the growth process of coffee beans, due to various reasons, they usually present three states. The first state is that when the coffee beans are cut out from the epidermis, there are two coffee beans standing opposite each other inside. This is also the most common situation. We usually call such coffee beans flat beans, commonly known as female beans. The second state is that most of them grow at the top of the coffee tree. Due to insufficient light, water, and nutrient absorption, or the harsh natural environment, the coffee fruit is not fully developed. When it is finally cut open, it can be seen that there is only one coffee bean in the coffee fruit. We usually call it round beans, commonly known as male beans. The third state is rarely seen, that is, there are three coffee beans in one coffee fruit. We call such coffee beans triangular beans.
In fact, without the distinction between male and female, there is no question of whether male beans are better or female beans are better. Most producing areas do not sell male and female beans separately, but simply mix them together. However, in a few places, such as Indonesia, male beans are specially separated, and naturally the price will be higher than female beans or mixed beans. In fact, it is just a gimmick. However, due to various reasons such as nutrient absorption, the taste of the two beans is more or less different. This difference can be ignored after mixing. If you drink it alone, it depends on your preference. Message from Little Deer: Coffee is such a strange drink. It’s up to you to decide whether it tastes good or not! |
