The degree of roasting of coffee beans has a great impact on the taste and storage time. Different degrees of roasting will bring different flavor characteristics and storage ability. Light baking

Light roasting means that the coffee beans are lightly processed at a lower temperature, retaining more of the original flavor. This degree of roasting usually produces bright, fresh fruity coffee with high and clearly identifiable acidity.

Since there is still a certain amount of moisture in the shallow frying process, this type of coffee is more susceptible to moisture and deterioration than the other two types. Therefore, the storage time at room temperature is usually about 2-4 weeks.

Medium fried

Medium roasting is between light and dark roasting, and its goal is to retain some of the original flavor while increasing sweetness and fullness. This level of roasting produces a balanced coffee with rich sweetness and moderate acidity.

Compared to light roasted coffee beans, medium roasted coffee beans can be stored longer. If stored properly, they can maintain good quality and taste for about 4-6 months.

Deep fry

Dark roasting refers to processing coffee beans at high temperatures, making their surface shiny and caramelized to a certain extent. This degree of roasting usually produces a rich, bitter, cocoa-flavored coffee with low acidity.

Because the moisture is almost completely removed from the beans during the deep roasting process, this type of coffee has a longer shelf life. If stored correctly, it can still maintain relatively good quality and taste within about a year.

Other factors

In addition to the degree of roasting, there are other factors that affect the taste persistence and storage time of coffee beans:

  • Packaging: Sealed packaging can effectively prevent the effects of oxygen, light and humidity on coffee beans and extend their shelf life.
  • Storage environment: Coffee beans are best stored in a dry, dark and temperature-stable place, away from strong odors.
  • Grinding: Whole coffee beans are easier to store than ground coffee beans, which lose flavor faster once opened and exposed to air.

In summary, the taste of light roasting is less durable, preferably within 2-4 weeks; medium roasting can last for about 4-6 months; and deep roasting can last for about a year.
