Why do girls like to drink "cappuccino" in Starbucks coffee?

Why do girls like to drink "cappuccino" in Starbucks coffee?

Cappuccino is the Starbucks coffee that girls like to drink.

It always has been.

Although the emergence of flat white coffee has taken away some of the love, cappuccino is still as charming as ever.

Classics are classics, just like the little black dress in your closet. It has stood the test of time and its charm remains the same.

If you stay in front of the Starbucks service counter for a while, you will find that the most popular orders are latte and cappuccino.

However, most of those who order cappuccino are women.

Some girls don’t have the habit of drinking coffee. If you invite her to drink Starbucks, she often asks for “cappuccino”.

At Starbucks, I also asked some of my male friends why they didn’t drink cappuccino. Their answers surprised me, “Cappuccino, this name is too feminine. Men should drink latte! Latte is masculine!”

Well, that's a godly answer!

When I thought about it again, I suddenly realized, "Among these girls who love cappuccino, maybe some of them like to drink it because of the poetic name!"

1

Why is it called cappuccino?

In fact, the name Cappuccino does not have much meaning, it is just a transliteration.

Unlike Flat White, which is a name that Starbucks took great care to come up with.

Cappuccino is the name used in mainland China and Taiwan.

But if you travel to Hong Kong and want to order a cappuccino at Starbucks in Hong Kong, you have to order "foamy coffee".

Of course, I think the other person should be able to understand if you call him “Cappuccino”, because Cappuccino is the transliteration of its English name “Cappuccino”!

I don’t know if, when you were in college, when a boy asked you to have coffee at Starbucks, he ever told you the origin of the name “cappuccino”.

If you haven't heard of it, let me tell you about it.

In the 16th century, a church called Francis Capuchin was established under the Italian Catholic Church.

This church is very special. It advocates hardship, simplicity, charity and charity, which is what we call "asceticism".

What’s even more unique is that the monks of the Franciscan Order like to wear brown robes all day long. These robes also come with a hat called “Cappuccio”.

Later, the Italians invented a new kind of coffee. When people saw it, they thought it looked like St. Francis of Assisi with a hat on.

You see, when the monk puts on his hat, there is a brown circle on the outside and a human face in the middle, which is white and clean.

Looking at this new coffee, it also has a brown outer ring, called the “Big Golden Ring”, as shown in the picture below. This is the brown color that coffee turns into after being mixed with milk.

In the center of the coffee was a pile of rough, white, round milk foam.

Therefore, the Italians simply named this new coffee "Cappuccino", and thus the current "Cappuccino" came into being.

How about it? After hearing this origin, do you have a better impression of cappuccino?

2

The Origin of Cappuccino

Maybe, while sitting in Starbucks, you also like to hold a cappuccino and look at the bustling crowd outside the window.

But what you don’t know is that behind the cup of coffee in your hand there is a story of “a good horse encountering a good horse trainer”.

Just like when Zhou Xun made her debut, she was originally a calendar girl. However, director Xie Tieli saw Zhou Xun’s beautiful appearance on the calendar and invited her to film her first movie. This is how the current movie queen “Miss Zhou” came into being.

The same goes for cappuccino.

For hundreds of years after its invention, cappuccino was just a local drink, widely popular throughout Italy.

The way Italians drink cappuccino is quite peculiar.

They only drink it in the morning or as a breakfast drink because they think cappuccino with milk is too "strong" and difficult to digest, and they no longer drink it after noon.

In 1983, Schultz, the current chairman of Starbucks, went to Milan, Italy, to attend the International Home Furnishing Exhibition .

In Italy, he was deeply impressed by the local coffee culture. Cappuccino, latte and espresso opened another door to the world of coffee for him.

Cappuccino, the combination of coffee, milk and milk foam, may seem very ordinary to us now, but to Schultz at that time, it was like a child encountering a toy he had never seen before, novel, amazing and wonderful.

After returning to the United States, Schultz launched Starbucks' improved cappuccino and latte, which became unstoppable and cappuccino became one of the most popular coffees in the United States.

Moreover, on the other side of the earth, Costa, a well-known coffee chain originating from the UK, is also taking action.

It prides itself on being the authentic Italian coffee, making cappuccino popular in the UK and becoming a part of European life.

With the joint efforts of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, cappuccino has become a superstar in the international coffee industry.

In this way, cappuccino is not only popular in Starbucks, but also becomes a well-known "top drink" in any coffee shop.

How to make cappuccino

Many people know me, Zheng Xiaota, as a wine teacher. In fact, I have also taken an intermediate barista course.

In the article "Why does Starbucks have so many "lattes"? - Starbucks Coffee - Quickly become an expert in eating and drinking! -", I mentioned that latte is a mixture of coffee and milk.

Cappuccino has an additional foamed milk. It is a mixture of coffee, milk and foamed milk.

Perhaps you will ask, "Zheng Xiaota, is there a standard way to make cappuccino?"

Regarding this, when we were operating the coffee machine, the teacher told us that there is no standard way to make cappuccino in reality.

In actual operations, each coffee shop has its own proportions, including Starbucks.

But in various materials, there is a "standard" method: coffee, milk, and milk foam are in a 1:1:1 ratio, and each accounts for one-third of cappuccino.

This practice occurs in European and American countries, but not in China.

Because Europeans drink larger quantities of espresso, and the mugs they use are small at the bottom and large at the top, with an even bigger opening, so the ratio looks "1:1:1", as shown in the picture below.

Moreover, Starbucks cappuccino is not made in this way.

You see, a serving of espresso at Starbucks is around 30 ml, and a medium tall cup has a capacity of about 360 ml. So, when you calculate it, it can’t even reach one-third of 120 ml!

Even Starbucks' Grande, with two shots of espresso totaling 60 ml, is only one-eighth of the 480 ml capacity of a large cup, which is still a long way from one-third.

Therefore, the cup of cappuccino in your hand is actually a cup of Starbucks' "customized" cappuccino, not the so-called "standard" cappuccino as stated in the information.

Of course, Starbucks' version of cappuccino has become the standard for cappuccino for us Chinese.

You see, Starbucks has more than 3,500 stores in China. After more than 20 years of influence, the taste of Starbucks cappuccino has been deeply rooted in people's hearts and has become "orthodox."

The taste of cappuccino

"Cappuccino, you must open the lid when drinking."

Every time I see a cappuccino in Starbucks, I remind my friends around me.

Drinking with the lid closed is a crime against cappuccino.

After opening the lid, take a stirring stick and stir the cappuccino to fully mix the coffee, milk and milk foam.

Authentic Italians also use this method.

Girls like to drink cappuccino because of its dense milk foam.

The dense milk foam is spread over every corner of the cappuccino, and when your lips come into contact with the coffee, you can feel a soft feeling, just like the "little kiss" between boys and girls in their innocent years.

At the same time, a rich aroma wafts out, sometimes you smell the scent of coffee, sometimes the scent of milk.

When you drink cappuccino, you will taste the sweetness and softness brought by the milk foam, and occasionally a hint of bitter coffee.

This is the unique "fun" that cappuccino brings.

Although latte also has milk foam, it is only a thin layer (as shown in the picture below), which makes girls who like the taste of milk foam turn to cappuccino.

Speaking of latte, if you taste them carefully, you can feel that the milk flavor of cappuccino is lighter than that of latte, but the coffee flavor is stronger.

Or, you could compare it with a flat white.

The coffee flavor of cappuccino is lighter, while the milk flavor is stronger. I have talked about this in "What is the origin of Starbucks' Flat White? - Starbucks Coffee - Quickly become an expert in food and drink! -".

Cappuccino and Love

Did you know?

Cappuccino coffee is also a frequent guest in love songs.

Elva Hsiao has a song called “Cappuccino”, which was a popular song when I was a teenager.

"Love is like Cappuccino, with thick and lingering bubbles and an alluring aroma. I can't let it go. Love is Cappuccino, with a bitter and beautiful taste that stays in my heart for a long time."

These songs sing out the "love" of cappuccino, making the name of coffee "cappuccino" deeply engraved in the hearts of girls.

That’s not all. Cappuccino can often be seen in romance novels and emotional movies and TV dramas.

Its appearance is always accompanied by dating scenes between men and women in the play. Amid the ups and downs of the plot, the girls also remember "cappuccino" coffee.

In a sense, cappuccino represents love.

Just like tiramisu.

Two cups of cappuccino and a piece of tiramisu have become the standard for dates between boyfriends and girlfriends, conveying deep love.

Of course, Starbucks cappuccino is best served in a mug with the company's logo, which is more stylish.

If the thoughtful "him" is dating you, he will sprinkle some cocoa powder or cinnamon powder in the center of your cappuccino foam (available at the service desk).

Then, I will gently tell you, "This is the traditional way of drinking in Europe, a special cappuccino, for the special you."

Perhaps this also explains why girls like to drink cappuccino.

They all have a heart that wants to be "loved" and "cared for"!
