How to process coffee beans after hand grinding

Hand grinding is a traditional way of grinding coffee beans, which can retain the original flavor and aroma of coffee beans. After hand grinding, we need to process the coffee beans properly to ensure that the final brewed coffee tastes better. Here are some common processing methods.

1. Storage

After hand-grinding your coffee beans, the first thing you need to do is store them properly. To preserve freshness and prevent oxidation, it is recommended that you store the ground but unused coffee beans in a sealed container in a cool, dry, dark, and odor-free place.

2. Freezing

If you have extra or purchased fresh, high-quality coffee beans in bulk and want to preserve them for a long time, you can consider using the freezing method. First, put the coffee beans that have been hand-crushed into powder form (even coarse ground is fine) into a sealed bag and make sure it is completely sealed. Then put the bag in the freezer and take out the required amount of coffee powder when you need to use it, then reseal the rest and quickly put it back in the freezer.

3. Packaging

After hand-grinding your coffee beans, you may find that you have more ground coffee than you need for one cup. In this case, it is recommended to separate the excess ground coffee. Use small sealed containers or bags for separation and mark them strictly according to the amount you use each time.

4. Screening

Sometimes, the manual crushing process may produce uneven sized particles. In order to obtain a more uniform and fine coffee powder, you can consider sifting it through a sieve. Simply pour the coffee beans that have been crushed but have larger particles or uneven particles onto the sieve and gently shake them to allow the smaller particles to fall through the sieve holes into the container.

5. Use

Finally, when you are ready to brew coffee, put the hand-ground coffee powder into the filter cup or coffee machine, and choose the appropriate brewing method according to your personal taste and preference. Remember to measure out the required amount of coffee powder as needed before use, and keep the rest sealed to maintain freshness.

In short, hand grinding is a grinding method that can bring more original flavor and aroma. For hand-crushed coffee beans, correct handling can ensure that their quality and taste are not damaged. Through proper storage, freezing, packaging, screening and use, we can make full use of the advantages of hand-crushing and enjoy a more delicious and satisfying cup of hand-ground coffee.
