The magic of coffee: from beans to a cup of coffee

Coffee, as a popular drink, has a unique charm. It not only provides a morning refreshment, but also allows people to immerse themselves in a world of aroma. However, it is not easy to turn coffee beans into a cup of fragrant and delicious coffee. Below we will take you through the process from beans to a cup of fragrant coffee.

1. Coffee bean picking and processing

First, before you can enjoy delicious coffee, you must pick and process the coffee beans. When ripe red berries appear on the coffee trees, farmers begin to pick these precious berries. They use manual or machine methods to peel the berries and perform preliminary cleaning.

The next step is to further process the peeled fruit. There are usually two methods: dry method and wet method.

a) Dry method:

The dry method is one of the most traditional and straightforward methods. In this method, the coffee beans are left to dry in the sun. This process requires time and patience, as the beans must be repeatedly turned and kept at the right humidity.

b) Wet method:

The wet method is a more complex process. In this process, the berries are first washed in water and then removed by a machine. Next, the beans are soaked in a fermentation tank for a period of time to remove the pulp residue and finally rinsed with water.

2. Coffee Bean Roasting

After picking and processing, coffee beans need to be roasted to release their aroma and flavor. Roasting is a delicate and artistic process that can be adjusted to suit different taste requirements.

The first is the preheating stage, during which the temperature gradually rises and the coffee beans become dry. Then it enters the first crack stage, when the coffee begins to release its aroma and the color changes from dark brown to light brown. If you want a darker roast, you can continue to heat it.

The second crack occurs inside the coffee beans, and the beans become more shiny. Depending on your personal taste, you can choose to stop roasting or continue.

3. Coffee bean grinding

Once the roasting process is completed, the next step is to grind the coffee beans. Different grinds are suitable for different brewing methods.

a) Coarse powder:

Coarse grounds are suitable for brewing methods such as French press and cold brew. This method provides larger particle size coffee grounds and produces a strong and full taste.

b) Medium powder:

Medium powder is suitable for common brewing methods such as drip and pour-over. It provides a balanced and soft flavor profile and is easy to master.

c) Finely crushed:

Fine grind is suitable for espresso machines and cappuccino brewing methods. This method provides a richer and more intense taste.

4. Coffee Brewing

Finally, we come to the most critical step: brewing the ground coffee beans into a cup of fragrant and delicious coffee.

a) Drip type:

Drip brewing is one of the most common and simplest ways to brew coffee. Simply put the filter paper into the filter pot, add the right amount of water and coffee beans of the right grind size, and then slowly pour boiling water until it is completely filtered.

b) French Press:

The French press retains more oil and particulate matter, producing a fuller and richer taste. Simply mix a moderate amount of coarsely ground coffee beans with boiling water, and press the filter after about 4 minutes to enjoy the delicious taste.

c) Espresso:

An espresso machine is capable of producing strong, rich coffee. Simply place the right amount of finely ground coffee beans into the machine, press a button, and wait.

Through the above steps, we have successfully turned coffee beans into a cup of fragrant and delicious coffee. Each link needs to be carefully handled and mastered to maximize the magic of coffee.
