Coffee bean roasting degree: from light to dark, the taste level gradually sublimates

Light Roast

Light roast is the lightest roast of coffee beans, also known as "sub-light roast" or "semi-city roast". At this stage, the color of the coffee beans is light yellow to dark brown. Due to the lower temperature and shorter time, the moisture inside the coffee beans is not completely evaporated, so they are usually fuller, denser, and have a certain degree of acidity.

Medium roast

Medium roasting is a stage between light roast and dark black. At this stage, the coffee beans begin to become darker brown and begin to have an oily luster. Compared with the fullness and bright taste produced by the light roast, the medium roast tends to show a variety of flavor characteristics in a more balanced way. It retains some characteristics of the original flavor (such as fruitiness) and adds some novel and complex taste.

Deep Black

Dark black is the highest level of roasting, closest to carbonization. At this stage, the color of the coffee beans becomes very dark, even close to black, and the surface is covered with a layer of glossy luster. Due to the high temperature and long roasting time, the moisture inside the coffee beans has been completely evaporated, and a large amount of carbonized substances have been produced. This roasting method will cause the coffee beans to lose their original flavor characteristics, but bring a rich, bitter and full taste.

The taste level is gradually sublimated

As the roasting degree increases from light to dark, the various flavor characteristics of the coffee beans will gradually emerge. In the light fire period, due to the high acidity and light taste, we can taste some bright and fresh fruit or floral flavors. In the medium fire period, it is easier to experience balanced, complex and citrus fruit or chocolate flavors.

However, in the dark stage, due to the influence of carbonized substances on the flavor, the taste is more rich, bitter and full. This roasting method is suitable for people who like a strong taste, but it may cover up the original flavor of the coffee beans themselves.

Summarize

The degree of roasting of coffee beans ranges from light to dark, and the taste level gradually sublimates. Different degrees of roasting will bring different taste and flavor characteristics, and everyone has different preferences for the taste and flavor of coffee. Therefore, when choosing coffee, we can choose the roasting degree that suits our taste according to our preferences for acidity, sweetness, bitterness and other factors.

Whether it is light fire or dark black, each one has its own unique features and is worth trying and tasting. Only by experiencing different degrees of roasting in a diverse way can you truly discover which style you love and find the perfect cup of coffee that best suits your personal taste needs.
